Your impact on the team

As the Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the engineering strategy, architecture, and execution of our platform initiatives. You will lead a talented team of engineers, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and ensure the delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-quality software solutions that meet the needs of K12 educators and students, in concert with your product management partner. Above all, we need someone who practices “extreme ownership”, and lives and breathes the both the K12 customer experience, and the experience of the engineers working to support them.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. It may require up to 25% occasional travel across various MH offices in the U.S. and/or Canada.

What you will be doing:

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of software engineers.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
    • Recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent.
  • Platform Engineering:
    • Define and execute the technical vision and strategy for the platform engineering team.
    • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and reliable platform architecture.
    • Ensure the platform is secure, performant, and aligned with industry best practices.
  • User Experience:
    • Work closely with our UX leadership, bringing a strong interest in developing great user-facing product experiences
  • Project Management:
    • Work with Program Managers to manage multiple complex engineering projects simultaneously.
    • Develop and maintain detailed milestone plans, and budgets.
    • Monitor progress and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Collaborate with product management, design, and other cross-functional teams to define and prioritize platform requirements.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including executives, to provide updates on project status, risks, and opportunities.
  • Architecture and Technical Excellence:
    • Drive architectural decisions and ensure alignment with the overall technical strategy.
    • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
We're looking for someone with:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in platform engineering, including designing and building scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing large, complex projects.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the K12 education technology space is highly desirable.

The pay range for this position is between $162,250 - $240,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
