Job Description

De Beers Canada has a full-time permanent opportunity for a Metallurgist within the Ore Processing department at the Gahcho Kué Mine located in the Northwest Territories.  Reporting to the Metallurgical Lead, the incumbent will provide metallurgical expertise and technical support to the process department to ensure efficient and optimum plant performance. The ideal candidate will be one who enjoys multi-tasking, is results-oriented and is committed to safe working practices and strive for zero harm.

What the Role Entails:

  • Processing quality assurance metrics using the DVM elements and metallurgical standards through routine and project work;
  • Giving input into MCF on process recovery factors, liaising with the geology and mining engineering departments;
  • Analyzing and reporting laboratory results;
  • Providing support and guidance to the laboratory technicians and de-falsifiers while developing their skills;
  • Preparing, maintaining, and updating laboratory procedures for determining process efficiency and product quality;
  • Auditing the process to prevent product loss;
  • Providing coverage to the sort house and laboratory operations;
  • Working closely with the Plant Operations and Maintenance teams to help provide hands-on support and troubleshoot issues and ensure the process is running optimally;
  • Assisting the Ore Processing Manager and Process Plant Superintendents with budget preparations, production and maintenance planning activities; and
  • Identifying areas with process bottlenecks and proposing solutions to maximize utilization.

The role is based within the Ore Processing team. This is a site-based position with (2) two weeks in, (2) weeks out rotation.

Qualifications
  • Degree in extractive metallurgy, mineral processing, or chemical engineering;
  • 2 to 5 years experience in a mineral processing plant, preferably diamonds;
  • Currently possessing, or able to possess, a Professional Engineering (P. Eng.) designation;
  • Experience with development and maintenance of plant simulations (i.e. Simio);
  • Experience with physical separation theory as it relates to the diamond recovery process;
  • Excellent proficiency in data analysis, database queries, various statistical modelling, Microsoft Excel; and
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
