Job description

Overview:

AmTrust Financial Services, Inc., a fast-growing commercial insurance company, has an immediate need for an in-house legal assistant to work out of our Chicago Staff Counsel office. We are looking for someone who is well versed in Workers' Compensation in the following States of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota preferably. 

Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to 2 or more Attorneys in managing workers' compensation cases in multiple jurisdictions from assignment to resolution
  • Schedule meetings, hearings, appointments, and depositions
  • Maintain and manage Attorney calendars, avoiding and resolving conflicts
  • Draft, edit, and proofread legal documents (appearances, pleadings, motions, correspondence) for attorney review and approval
  • Process documents (assemble, copy, scan, serve, E-file)
  • Track and follow up on outgoing subpoenas
  • Assemble medical records for experts
  • Communicate with claim partners, clients, witnesses, Court, opposing counsel, vendors, and team members
  • Maintain organized and accurate electronic case files to ensure data integrity 
  • Timely transmit and request payments to vendors, experts, etc.
  • Knowledge of administrative agency rules and filing requirements
  • Assist Managing Attorney and Manager with special assignments as needed

Provide backup support when needed:

  • Answer inbound main line phone calls and route inquiries to correct team member
  • Greet and manage guests and vendors
  • Retrieve, scan, and route all incoming mail to proper team and Claims
  • Monitor and process office electronic mailbox correspondence
  • Process outbound USPS/FedEx mail Provide office support as needed (place tickets for failing equipment, order office supplies, assist peers as needed and during PTO)
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3+ years’ workers compensation experience preferred
  • Experience with Minnesota workers’ compensation system required. Wisconsin, Illinois, and Missouri are a plus.
  • Prior workers’ compensation experience supporting multiple attorneys and competing deadlines
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Organized, self- motivated, ability to prioritize and work independently
  • Exceptional attention to details and the production of professional work product
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Work in a team environment with a positive respectful attitude
  • Experience with a document management platform
