This fully remote opportunity allows you to leverage your expertise in coding while contributing to a team that values excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic and procedure PCS codes for clinical encounters, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory and CMS coding guidelines.
  • Provide essential inpatient coding support as part of the Health Information Management department, collaborating effectively with leadership and HIM staff.
  • Maintain compliance with CMS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, ensuring coding accuracy and integrity.
  • Engage in the appropriate physician clarification process for ambiguous or incomplete documentation to ensure correct coding.
  • Uphold HIM coding policies and AHA Official Coding Guidelines in your daily responsibilities.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at performance improvement to enhance coding practices and quality.
  • Consistently meet or exceed productivity and quality benchmarks established by department leadership.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years of inpatient coding experience is essential.
  • Previous experience in an acute care setting or Trauma Level II coding is preferred.
  • AAPC, AHIMA, or equivalent Certified Coding credential is required, excluding apprenticeship status.
  • Proficient knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with HIM staff.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in inpatient coding is necessary.
  • Certification in coding from a recognized accrediting body is required as a foundational educational criterion.
  • Familiarity with specialty areas like Recurring Wound Care, Home Health, or Interventional Radiology is advantageous.
