Job Overview

We are actively seeking an enthusiastic and highly competent Lead DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team in a fully remote capacity. This pivotal role offers the chance to mentor and develop team members while spearheading our DevOps initiatives, aimed at enhancing automation, streamlining processes, and managing application migrations. Your contributions will play a key role in supporting educational institutions in Iowa and various stakeholders through a comprehensive suite of data collection and reporting applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the DevOps strategy, balancing hands-on technical work with leadership duties, focusing primarily on automating CI/CD pipelines and guiding development teams through application migrations.
  • Direct the migration of applications from TFS/ADO to GitHub, leveraging your expertise in GitHub Actions, GitHub Enterprise, and Azure DevOps to craft and implement effective migration strategies.
  • Develop scalable, automated solutions for builds, testing, and deployments while optimizing branching, merging, and release processes to improve operational efficiency.
  • Offer mentorship and technical guidance to developers, facilitating technical discussions, and sharing best practices in development, security, and process automation.
  • Incorporate security scanning tools into the development pipeline, enhancing code quality through automated tests, code reviews, and robust continuous integration practices.
  • Primarily focused on Azure, you will also utilize experience with other cloud platforms and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to establish and manage CI/CD pipelines from inception.

Required Skills

  • C#, ASP.NET, MVC, .NET Core (8+ years): Extensive experience with the Microsoft technology stack is essential.
  • Security Practices (8+ years): Proven experience in implementing security practices, including static code analysis and encryption.
  • TFS, Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions (5+ years): In-depth knowledge is crucial for leading migration efforts and building automation solutions.
  • Test Automation & TDD (5+ years): Experience in implementing automated testing to ensure reliability with tools such as Selenium, NUnit, or xUnit is advantageous.
  • T-SQL and MSSQL (8+ years): Strong skills in query tuning, database optimization, and automation are required.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship (5+ years): Demonstrated experience in mentoring and leading teams is critical.
  • Code Quality & Security Scanning Tools (4+ years): Familiarity with tools like GitHub Advanced Security and Dependabot to enhance security and code quality.
  • Code Branching, Merging, and Release Optimization (5+ years): Experience in refining code branching and release management processes is essential.
  • TypeScript/Angular, Client-Based Authorization (2+ years): Knowledge of front-end technologies is a plus for future collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in technical leadership and mentorship within a DevOps context.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Microsoft technology stack, particularly in relation to DevOps initiatives.
