Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Accountant!

This job has primary responsibility for the reconciliation activities for a specific functional team(s) of the Center of Excellence (Recon CoE) over a specific segment and product line.  Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, this role has responsibility for approving assigned reconciliations, preparing complex reconciliations, and supporting management with assisting and guiding other less experienced staff.  This role will establish and maintain strong partnership with internal teams as well as external stakeholders. Strong focus on establishing processes and procedures to ensure quality and effective controls are in place for areas of functional responsibilities.  This includes but not limited to ensuring the delivery of accurate balance sheet reconciliations, develop and maintain documentation/SOPs for the reconciliation process, driving standardization and enhancements for the reconciliation process for areas of responsibility and ensuring reconciliations are performed according to policy for product line of responsibility.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Responsible for varying complexities of balance sheet reconciliations.  Will approve reconciliations (offshore) and prepare complex reconciliations which are approved by the Manager

  • Collaborates and supports third party provider: shares expertise, provides feedback, and works together to reach resolution for outstanding items

  • Demonstrate an understanding of related upstream/downstream processes and inter-dependencies related to all balance sheet reconciliations of responsibility

  • Completes timely and accurate analytics on balance sheet reconciliations prepared and approved in scope

  • Supports the aging analysis compilation and review along with Accounting Analyst

  • Provide guidance on reconciliation requirements for area of responsibility

  • Requires networking and relationship building with business and operational stakeholders

  • Main support to manger for monthly and quarterly financial reporting to upper management and segment controllership.

  • Monitor and review key financial metrics and management reporting

  • Participate in projects and initiatives including but not limited to, system integrations, acquisitions, and process improvement for areas of responsibility.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • BA or BS in Accounting, Finance, CPA preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of related general accounting experience, insurance preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Oracle ERP or other ERP tools.

  • Efficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically excel, word, and power point.

  • Experience in analytical skills: gather & analyze data, identify trends and differences, communicate the impact or story appropriately, and ensure relevant resolution for all activities.

  • Supporting manager in transformational initiatives

  • Ability to demonstrate strong collaboration, delegation, and partnering skills.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of US GAAP, STAT, internal controls, financial reporting and data analysis and trending preferred.

  • Understanding of progressive accounting practices and procedures

  • Blackline or other reconciliation tool usage a plus

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (i.e., SOX, audits)

  • Working in an enterprise center of excellence environment a plus

  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and perform in a fast-paced environment.

  • Adhere to strict timelines for recurring deliverables such as quarter-end close activities which may require extended working hours during those periods.

  • Tracking of issues reported and accountability for those issues through resolution.

  • Continuous improvement mentality and partnering for transformational activities related to improving the quality and accuracy of reconciliation.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Microsoft BI Reporting / Cubes a plus

  • Public accounting and/or Audit experience a plus

  • Working knowledge of balance sheet reconciliations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid understanding and experience with internal control frameworks

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and overcome challenges

Pay Range:

$62,000.00 - $103,400.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
