Overview
The Last Mile, a San Francisco based non-profit is the first prison program in the U.S. to provide in-prison software engineering training. Our mission is to provide opportunities for personal and professional growth for justice-involved individuals through education and technology training. The Last Mile prepares students for employment as full-stack web developers post-release, teaching HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node, MongoDB, React, and more.

The Multimedia Programs Manager will lead the creation, editing, and management of a variety of media content to advance The Last Mile’s mission and public visibility. This position focuses on multimedia content creation, including video production, content optimization for multiple platforms, and managing media assets. We are seeking someone with a strong storytelling ability, a keen eye for viral content, and the skill to distill larger stories into succinct, impactful short-form videos that perform well in social media algorithms.

Job Duties

   Video Production & Editing

  • Manage the entire video production lifecycle, from planning and editing long-form content to creating short-form videos optimized for various platforms.
  • Operate DSLR camera setups, manage equipment, set up lighting, and capture high-quality footage in dynamic settings.
  • Capture both primary footage and supplementary B-roll at interviews and events.
  • Edit interviews and other content from The Last Mile Radio using multi-cam editing techniques.
  • Export final video cuts and reformat content into short-form clips, using tools such as Descript or similar platforms.
  • Turn complex stories into concise, attention-grabbing short-form videos that are highly valued by social media algorithms and search engines.
  • Maintain an excellent eye for identifying content with viral potential and align it with social media trends and user behaviors.
  • Add subtitles, music, title cards, and outro animations as needed to create polished, high-quality video content.

   Content Management & Optimization

  • Organize and archive media files, ensuring systematic filing of clips, thumbnails, and related assets.
  • Create titles, descriptions, and thumbnails for multimedia content that are optimized for social media algorithms to maximize engagement and visibility.
  • Stay on the forefront of social media trends, creating content that captures attention and is optimized to be favored by social media algorithms.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in video editing, videography, and content creation, with proficiency in tools like Scenery.video, Descript, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to manage DSLR camera setups, lighting, and capture high-quality footage in varied settings.
  • Strong photography and videography skills, including experience capturing B-roll during interviews and events.
  • Strong understanding of creating content for multiple platforms, ensuring optimal formats for social media.
  • Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices for social media content.
  • Ability to identify storytelling opportunities and trends that drive social media engagement.
  • Understanding of social media trends, with a mindset for creating content that is positioned to go viral.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing large volumes of media assets.
  • Interest in or experience with criminal justice reform or social impact programs is a plus.
  • Be located within a commutable distance to Los Angeles of the San Francisco Bay Area for occasional onsite/in-studio activities
