Associate Director, Internship & Training

The Associate Director of Internship and Training plans, organizes, and directs AACI’s APA internship program and clinical training programs for all behavioral health staff. The Associate Director supervises the day-to-day activities of the Internship and Training program and supports integrated activities with other Departments under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Health.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Select the Clinical Psychology Interns for the program, developing and using selection standards which meet the requirements of the American Psychological Association, California Board of Behavioral Sciences and AACI’s specific program requirements.
  • Develop and implement departmental staff training and professional development plans.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of the Clinical Supervisors, interns, and trainees.
  • Communicate with APA and University faculty advisors of interns and trainees, including mid-year and annual evaluations of the students.
  • Coordinate onboarding/termination processes with Human Resources.
  • Provide clinical consultation to supervisors, program staff, and other agency staff. 
  • Assist with grant writing and reporting as necessary for programmatic operations.
  • Coordinate training activities with other programs of the agency.
  • Engage teams cross-functionally to ensure internship and program objectives are accomplished
  • Organize seminars, workshops and symposia to meet the training needs of the interns and trainees.
  • Expand psychological testing services and support outside agency utilization of AACI testing services.
  • Provide/support other program coverage as needed when managers are out.
  • Maintain LPS 5150 Authorization certification and provide officer of the day support for crisis intervention.
  • Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Ph.D./Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology is required.
  • Current license in Psychology from the California Board of Psychology.
  • Five or more years of post-license clinical experience.
  • Five or more years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with internship, volunteer, or service-learning programs. 
  • Two years of psychological testing, including neuropsychological testing and report writing experience.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision and supervision for psychological and neuropsychological testing.
  • Experience with electronic health records, EPIC preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to perform the duties described above.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and manage staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of: Principles, techniques and problems in teaching psychology students; principles, techniques and trends in clinical psychology; current trends in the field of mental health; professional training; principles of supervision.
  • Knowledge of laws and ethical standards pertaining to Behavioral Health.  
  • Knowledge of therapeutic modalities, treatment approaches, and trauma-informed care, and knowledge of engagement strategies for various clinical populations.
  • Knowledge of effective clinical supervision strategies and clinical didactic trainings.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the clinical, ethical and legal aspects of risk assessment, prevention, and intervention including abuse, dangerousness to self and/or others, and grave disability.
  • Skilled in the supervision, and provision of psychological testing measures, including assessment of ADHD, personality, intelligence, performance validity, and neuropsychological measures, to include for clients presenting with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), and dementia.

Working conditions

Work is conducted in an office environment inside a standard clinic setting. Basic safety precautions and use of protective clothing or gear may be required. Occasional evenings and weekend work is required. Working with clients who are seriously mentally ill, or high risk may increase exposure to secondary trauma.
