About the role

We’re looking for an Intermediate or Senior Underwriter to join our growing Commercial Group Solutions team!

As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for analyzing, selecting and underwriting commercial property and casualty business in our Specialty Solutions department. You will maintain a strong customer focused approach and commitment to the success of the team and organization. You will work closely with our brokers and our corporate auto teams to grow and maintain a profitable portfolio of the business.

What you’ll do here:

  • Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel policies following Intact underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager.

  • Develop business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with our broker partners by providing legendary service.

  • Support brokers regarding underwriting and rating policies

  • Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.

  • Answer inquiries and make recommendations to brokers and underwriters through verbal and written correspondence.

  • Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.

  • Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required.

  • Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines and new products.

  • Support and mentor team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact.


What you bring to the table:

  • Post-secondary education or any combination of equivalent education and experience

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a P&C insurance environment

  • A CIP graduate, or are working towards it

  • Strong analytical and customer service skills

  • Demonstrates initiative, the ability to work under pressure, and are flexible to change

  • Strong analytical, negotiating skills and business savvy

  • Can develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers

  • Can make decisions in time sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended course of action and take calculated risks

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products with an intermediate Excel proficiency

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
