Job description

The Clinical Intake Assessor is responsible for utilizing a client-focused, strength-based approach to identify client needs and help inform a client's care path, and clinical recommendations. Assessment results are intended to guide in the development of the client care path and treatment objectives when treatment is recommended.

Core Responsibilities & Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct client screening to determine medical necessity of Behavioral Health Treatment including interviewing clients and caregivers to gather clinical and medical information
  • Review relevant reports and documentation to inform clinical recommendations.
  • Use working knowledge of assessing and addressing risk.  Escalate high risk clinical concerns to supervisor.
  • Write all reports and other clinical documentation in a professional and objective manner.
  • Serve as a contact for clients and families and respond to all client inquiries within 2 business days; ensuring all client’s needs are met.
  • Complete documentation regarding all interactions with the client, provider, and interdisciplinary team, using appropriate systems and procedures promptly, per agency policies.
  • Supports Clinical Escalation Specialists and Client Case Manager and Provider Case Manager to address complaints and grievances by conducting client case reviews and client family outreach.
  • Collaborate with providers regarding clinical concerns related to their client.
  • Documents all client family complaints and grievances, and submits documentation to the Catalight Quality department, per policy requirements
  • As appropriate, coordinate with CCS Clinical Case Managers to ensure appropriate BHT services.
  • Participate in special projects and assist with additional duties/tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must adhere to all federal, state, and local laws/legislations as applicable as well as HIPAA laws and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent to:

  • California Licensed Mental Health Clinician. 
  • Working knowledge of assessing and addressing risk and dangerous behaviors.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, marriage family therapy or counseling is required.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Able to conduct strengths based, client centered clinical screener and refer clients for clinically appropriate services.
  • Sensitivity to working with an ethically, linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse population.
  • A commitment to the values of the organization while demonstrating good judgement, flexibility, patience and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters. 
  • Familiarity with the field of ABA, BHT, and knowledge of other community resources and agencies that serve this population preferred.
  • Consistent demonstration of good judgment and decision-making skills while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Able to appropriately interpret and implement policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while effectively multitasking.
  • Ability to work with various individuals across all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to effectively de-escalate clients and families
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis management.
  • Manage day-to-day responsibilities with or without supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (i.e. advanced listening techniques: empathic, active and reflective listening)
  • Strong client focused approach (i.e. ability to set clear boundaries and advocate for client/family needs)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be highly detail oriented.
  • Ability to work successfully on an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must be available Monday through Friday and able to conduct assessments in designated time blocks.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively within the work environment, read and write using the primary language within the workplace.
  • Visual and auditory ability to work with clients, staff and others in the workplace continuously.
  • Frequent speaking and listening (25-75%) to clients, staff, and others in the workplace.
  • Utilize computer and cell phone for effective communication.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently speaking and listening to clients, staff, and other professionals in meetings and on the phone.
  • Frequent sitting and maintaining close visual attention to write reports and work at the computer.
  • Visual and auditory ability to work with clients, staff and others in the workplace continuously.
  • Ability to utilize computer and cell phone (iPhone).
  • Frequent proofreading and checking documents for accuracy.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively within the workplace, read and write using the primary language within the workplace.

Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain criminal record clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ). The People & Performance Department must analyze DOJ/FBI live scan reports in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as fitness for the position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain clearance through the Office of Inspector General.
  • Must attend any required training.

Compensation:
$90,000 - $110,000 Annually
