How You Will Contribute

As an Associate Scientific Director at Red Nucleus, you have substantial experience researching, designing, and writing educational materials for life sciences industry professionals, including sales representatives, medical science liaisons, and healthcare provider audiences. You have the ability to process client goals, objectives, and strategy; and create solid learning solutions that convey and reinforce the client’s goals for the target audience. Your experience spans a wide array of disease states and associated anatomy and physiology, treatment landscapes, and patient experiences. You also have significant experience writing about product knowledge, competitive landscapes, and selling skills as well as writing in a wide variety of formats, including e-learning, print, live or virtual workshops, virtual preceptorships, patient journeys/pathways, videos, podcasts, games, assessments, and coaching guides. This range of experience allows you to perform curricula analyses and make valuable contributions to curricula designs.


You will also have experience effectively engaging and communicating with key client stakeholders, such as sales trainers and medical experts, and have demonstrated ability to adapt to workflow peaks. As an Associate Director/Director, Scientific Services you collaborate with our Operations, Creative and Editorial and Sales team members.


Your Responsibilities

As an Associate Scientific Director your responsibilities fall within 3 core areas: Content Development, Client Interaction, and Sales Support, with the majority of time spent on Content Development.

  • Content Development
    • Consulting with clients and subject matter experts inside and outside of RN to shape the design and development of content
    • Researching, learning, and distilling complex scientific information; client strategy and sales/marketing messaging; and creating accessible and relatable training materials for the target audience
      • Includes the ability to craft realistic dialogue for sales/marketing– and objection handling–related content/scenarios
    • Certifying other Medical Writer’s work (internal and/or freelance)
    • Incorporating sound instructional design
    • Following RN and client editorial standards
    • Adhering to client processes and requirements; and medical, legal, and regulatory standards
  • Client Interaction
    • Attending status calls and review meetings with client teams that may consist of members from Sales, Marketing, Medical, Legal, and Regulatory departments
    • Supporting your team and client during calls (eg, asking and answering questions, providing clarifications, providing solutions/options, etc, as needed)
  • Sales Support
    • Contributing to the development of RN’s solution design
    • Creating content outlines, scope estimates, etc
    • Participating in the development and delivery of sales presentations, including tasks such as
      • Helping to build the sales presentation PowerPoint
      • Participating in live sales presentations; participation level could range from providing a brief introduction and description of your role to presenting several PowerPoint slides related to curriculum elements/content


About You

  • BS/BA in a Life Sciences major
  • 1-3 years (Associate Director level) or ≥4 years (Director level) of medical writing experience a record of effectively
    • Writing for multiple disease states/devices
    • Writing in a wide variety of formats/products, eg
      • E-learning, print/PDF
      • Clinical study summaries, PI summaries
      • Patient journeys/pathways
      • Virtual preceptorships
      • Videos or podcasts
      • Sales coaching tools, games, assessments
      • Advisory Boards
      • Competitive landscape assessment
    • Ability to interpret complex scientific information; client strategy and sales/marketing messaging; and communicate clearly to a sales representative audience via different types of delivery formats
      • Thinking and writing visually
      • Writing appropriately to the target audience
      • Writing workshops
      • Adding value in client calls
      • Engaging and effectively communicating with key client stakeholders such as sales trainers and medical experts
      • Leading a large/complex project(s), eg
        • Revamp of existing curriculum involving substantive consulting/research
        • New indication launch involving multiple RN products/offerings (eg, PI amplifiers, e-learning, coaching guide, workshops, etc)
        • New brand launch involving new curriculum development and/or workshops
      • Adapting to workflow peaks effectively
      • Reviewing graphics, identifying inaccuracies/issues, and making sound suggestions for improvement
      • Contributing substantive writing to proposals
      • Speaking at live sales pitches
    • Willingness and ability to
      • Navigate between multiple and changing projects, tasks, priorities, and deadlines
      • Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
      • Positively accept and implement constructive feedback from internal and external sources
      • Consistently project an upbeat, professional attitude and image
      • Occasionally travel to client meetings/events
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
    • Familiarity with virtual meeting software (eg, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoTo Meeting, Skype for Business, WebEx, Adobe Connect, etc)


Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Pharmaceutical, medical device, and/or biotechnology sales training experience
  • Healthcare provider experience (MD, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, Pharmacist, etc)
  • Advanced degree (MA, MS, PhD, PharmD, MD)
  • Teaching experience and/or education
  • Instructional design experience and/or education
  • Familiarity with clinical research principles
  • Experience writing in multimedia formats
  • Working knowledge of the American Medical Association style guide
