Principal Engineer - Cybersecurity Products

Calix provides the cloud, software platforms, systems and services required for communications service providers to simplify their businesses, excite their subscribers and grow their value.

Our team is growing and we’re looking for a highly motivated, collaborative, and results oriented full-stack developer with domain expertise in building tooling and automation for network security and network traffic intelligence products. The ideal candidate must be an excellent individual contributor, detail-oriented, self-motivated with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and with others in a small team. You will be part of a highly specialized team that is constantly innovating, improving, and expanding the network intelligence technology at the core of the Calix platform.

Responsibilities and Duties:        

• Leverage your domain knowledge and expertise to propose, architect, design and implement tooling and automation to drive efficiency and scale in our development and delivery of platform software for cloud managed consumer and business secure internet gateway products.
• Propose and develop backend and frontend solutions that help drive data-driven decision making and overall software development process efficiency.
• Develop autonomous systems that extract, process, transform, store, and provide insight into data from a variety of 3rd party services and APIs in the context of network security and threat intelligence.
• Coordinate closely with other groups, including Cloud teams, Data teams, Premises teams, devops, infosec and QA to ensure the success of tools and automation projects.
• Contribute to driving tooling and automation roadmap and feature prioritization that aligns with maximizing ROI for the team and overall company.
• Analyze system scalability, interworking issues and perform root cause analysis of system issues.
• Mentor junior engineers within the team. 
• Keep abreast of the latest technologies within our product area.
• The candidate is expected to demonstrate a deep sense of product ownership with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience as a full-stack developer designing, coding, and contributing to high-performance real-time network security and intelligence products.
• Expert level knowledge of contemporary backend, database, and front end coding languages and frameworks and an ability to select the right technologies to align with project needs.
• Deep understanding and practical experience with network traffic and transport, application, and wifi protocols.
• Experience supporting the development of advanced network intelligence solutions and familiarity with leveraging ML for application detection, threat detection, and/or device typing.
• Experience with Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and Network Traffic Analysis.
• Experience with Firewalls and Gateways.
• Expert level understanding and experience working with L2-L7 protocol details.
• Organized and goal-focused, ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent analytical, integration, and debugging skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
