What we are looking for

We are looking for a Head of Credit Risk, whose primary responsibilities include strategically managing credit risk and overseeing the overall performance of the credit portfolio. You will be instrumental in enhancing the organization's credit performance, ensuring robust risk management practices, and driving profitability.

Your role involves developing and executing effective strategies to monitor, analyze, and enhance the credit quality of our portfolio, playing a pivotal role in maintaining the financial health and integrity of the organization. This role reports directly to the CTO.


What does the job involve
  • Strategic Planning and Decision Making: Play a key role in formulating long-term credit strategies and business plans, providing expert advice to senior management on decisions related to credit risk.
  • Risk Management: Develop and implement effective credit risk management strategies to minimize credit losses and maintain a healthy credit portfolio.
  • Credit Portfolio Oversight: Oversee the organization's credit portfolio, including monitoring the quality and performance of loans, assessing credit risk, and identifying potential issues.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize data analytics and modeling techniques to assess credit performance, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations for credit decisions and improvements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and industry standards related to credit and lending.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with executive leadership and other departments to communicate credit performance insights and align strategies with organizational goals.
  • Team Mentorship: Foster a collaborative and supportive environment by providing guidance and mentorship to team members, enhancing their professional development and skill set through continuous coaching, feedback, and career development opportunities.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field. (A Master's degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) would be a plus).
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in credit risk management, credit analytics, or related roles within the financial industry;
    • With at least 4 of those years in non-traditional credit lending settings, such as start-ups or fintech companies.
  • Credit Expertise and Strategic Planning and Decision Making: Strong understanding of credit risk assessment, portfolio management and experience formulating long-term credit strategies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, credit modeling, and statistical analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements related to lending and credit, and ability to ascertain and ensure compliance with financial regulations in Tanzania and any other countries we operate in.
  • Proven leadership and Coaching skills with excellent communication abilities to effectively convey credit insights and strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey credit insights and strategies.
  • An innovative mindset to explore new technologies and methodologies in credit risk management.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills and effective collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and evolving credit risk challenges.
