Job description

See yourself at Twilio

Join the team as our next Principal Solutions Engineer, Emerging Technology & Innovation

Who we are & why we’re hiring

Twilio powers real-time business communications and data solutions that help companies and developers worldwide build better applications and customer experiences.

Although we're headquartered in San Francisco, we have presence throughout South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. We're on a journey to becoming a global company that actively opposes racism and all forms of oppression and bias. At Twilio, we support diversity, equity & inclusion wherever we do business.

About the job

This position is needed to be the founding Solutions Engineer on the Emerging Technology and Innovation (ETI) team to bring a new product to market for Twilio.

Twilio's Emerging Technology and Innovation (ETI) team explores the future of customer engagement by researching and experimenting with artificial intelligence and other cutting edge technology. We dream big, believe in rapid prototyping to test our ideas, work closely and iteratively with customers and developers, and share what we learn with the Twilio community. As we bring a new AI product to market, we are hiring a go-getter solutions engineer directly within the ETI team. This person will be a subject matter expert on our new product, shaping our go-to-market strategy and setting the foundation for the product’s success as it seeks Product-Market Fit (PMF).

We are seeking a Principal Solutions Engineer who will be responsible for qualifying and delivering the technical win with customers for a new product at Twilio, and who will directly shape our go-to-market strategy. They will lead the technical pre-sales relationship, propose technical architectures, demo the product, anticipate concerns, and offer creative solutions. The right candidate is willing to dive deep into and stay up-to-date with the rapidly changing world of AI and LLMs, and help influence our roadmap to deliver value to our customers. They know how to build trust while navigating the rapid evolution of a nascent product.

We want someone who loves working cross-functionally and establishing connective tissue both internally and externally. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including our amazing teams of generalist sales and solution engineers, technical marketing and developer evangelists, product and engineering teams, and other stakeholders. Your customer insights will directly influence the product roadmap and positioning.

This person should be comfortable engaging a CEO or sketching out an API flow on a whiteboard with our customers’ developers.

The ETI team is a small group of builders and we often wear many hats. We are seeking someone who is excited to envision the future with us and help shape our go-to-market strategy.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Help customers achieve success by leading the technical sale and recommending best-practice solutions for their unique business needs
  • Build highly engaging demos while forming strong relationships with perspective and active customers
  • Collaborate closely with the ETI Product and Engineering to ensure thorough understanding of customer pain points and identify highest priorities across our early customer base, including internal customers as we test and iterate
  • Be a subject matter expert on our new product both internally and externally
  • Work with existing customers and prospects to understand their customer engagement vision and the technology gaps that prevent them from realizing it
  • Contribute to the overall product vision and go-to-market strategy in a dynamic startup-like setting within Twilio

  • Previous software development experience in one or more of the following areas:
