Description

About the role
The Sr. Cloud Systems Engineer is a senior role within the Systems and Cloud Engineering Team. The focus of this role is to be a key member of a lean team of infrastructure engineers to execute on and deliver multiple Infrastructure and Cloud projects and other activities including support that combine to make up the sum total of the transformative changes required to prepare MyEyeDr. for its next stage of growth and modernization.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of both Azure and AWS Cloud Systems Engineering as well as more traditional “On-Prem” Systems Engineering disciplines with a broader working knowledge of the entire infrastructure tech stack (Network, Security Systems, EUC, Observability Systems etc.) and strong execution and communications skills.

Reporting to the Manager, Systems Engineering, this is a hybrid remote role, offering a flexible work arrangement out of either our Raleigh, NC or Vienna, VA offices.

You Will
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and optimization of solutions using AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation) and Azure (e.g., Virtual Machines, Azure App Services, Azure SQL Database, Azure Kubernetes Service)
  • Leverage cloud-native services such as AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, and container orchestration with Kubernetes and Docker to build scalable, resilient cloud systems.
  • Support and manage secure, scalable, and highly available cloud network infrastructures using AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Networks, and hybrid connectivity solutions such as VPN, ExpressRoute, and Direct Connect.
  • Support and manage cloud network security practices, including network segmentation, firewall configurations (e.g., AWS Security Groups, Azure NSGs), and traffic routing through AWS Transit Gateway or Azure Traffic Manager to ensure robust cloud perimeter security.
  • Support hybrid cloud solutions, ensuring seamless integration between on-prem networks and cloud environments, while managing DNS and IP management with services like AWS Route 53 and Azure DNS.
  • Help to ensure effective resilience design in cloud deployments for day-to-day system reliability as well as rapid Disaster Recovery.
  • Engage with Application teams to design, develop and deploy a consistent methodology for application deployments, as well as creating on-demand environments for various applications for testing and validation.
  • Actively participate in Incident Management, Service Request Management, and Change Control Processes and Procedures.
  • Assist the System Administration team as an escalation point for complex issues originating from Help Desk/Other Teams.

About You
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred. A Master’s degree or other training in Computer Science, Electronics, or a similar technical field would be a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience working in similar infrastructure engineering and cloud transformation teams in fast-moving growth environments.
  • Strong execution focus and experience across a multitude of technologies and stakeholder groups.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to excellence in all activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in bringing structure into unstructured environments and a “go-getter” with the ability to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Good working knowledge either through experience or formal training in multiple layers of the technology stack.
  • Proven ability to professionally communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Confident self-starter, compassionate, and capable of building and maintaining valuable relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Can-do attitude, find creative solutions where necessary, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong scripting expertise in PowerShell is a must.
  • Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates. Implement automation for cloud resource provisioning, scaling, and management through robust CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Virtualization experience (Hyper V or VMware).
