Job Overview:

The Underwriting Assistant Rules Specialist works within the Underwriting Optimization team to help drive the implementation of new rules, execute project tasks, and coordinate deliverables to improve the underwriting rules engine.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Optimization Development team in prioritizing projects and initiatives to ensure the organization’s strategic and operational goals are met.
  • Ongoing analysis and monitoring to assist with the enhancement of our underwriting rules engine, Underwriting/New Business workflows, and overall workbench performance.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including but not limited to: Production Underwriting/New Business, Project Management, and Sales, to ensure successful implementation and communication of new initiatives and guideline changes.
  • Create user stories, assist in mapping changes, test/document system changes, and support work efforts to ensure all parts of an initiative are executed on time.
  • Understanding of our system integrations, including, but not limited to Sureify, Resonant, DocFast, Fast.
  • Recommend and apply suggested changes and developments to improve the workflow with vendors from a technical aspect.
  • Working knowledge of the industry's data sources, including but not limited to Milliman and LexisNexis products, including IRIX, DX, MIB and LRC.
  • Ability to recognize system needs, implement, and back department-level projects including process improvements for the department, as well as company-wide project engagement, as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for guidelines and workflows.
  • Assist with auditing our straight-through/automated business.
  • May be called upon to handle other duties as required.

Salary and Work Schedule:

A starting annual salary of $65,752, additional compensation would be dependent on level of experience with a range of up to $87,943 annually.

The 37.5 hour work week is scheduled from Monday through Friday, between the core hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.   

Work from home is available up to two days a week once trained to work independently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in rules engine systems preferred.
  • 3 years of Life Underwriting experience preferred.
  • Actively pursuing continuing education and professional development, including but not limited to FALU and FLMI designations.
  • Experience navigating the Atlassian Suite or products.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and experience in proofreading.
