As an Underwriting Leader, you will be responsible for managing a team of underwriting analyst, supporting the underwriting process, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of submission data. You will support underwriting decision-making, develop and maintain efficient processes, and provide mentorship to junior team members. This role also involves collaborating with agents, senior underwriters, participating in underwriting audits, and contributing to the development of underwriting guidelines and strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and Lead the Team: Supervise and mentor a team of Underwriting Analysts, ensuring consistent performance, professional growth, and development.
  • Support Underwriting Decision-Making: Assist underwriters in assessing and evaluating risks, ensuring alignment with company guidelines and industry standards.
  • Ensure Data Accuracy: Oversee the accuracy of submission data and develop processes to maintain data integrity across all underwriting activities.
  • Process Development: Create and implement underwriting procedures and best practices to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Mentoring and Training: Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior Underwriting Analysts to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Underwriting Audits: Participate in and support internal and external underwriting audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business,
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of underwriting commercial property or casualty business,  with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong understanding of underwriting principles, practices, and guidelines.
    • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a keen attention to detail.
    • Proven ability to manage and mentor a team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external agents.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Proficiency in underwriting software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in commercial underwriting.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Experience in process improvement and optimization.
