About the Art Director

We have an opening for an Art Director on our creative team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is ready to pair a razor-sharp eye for design with out-of-the-box conceptual thinking to help our clients deliver stand-out paid campaigns with an emphasis on social/digital and OOH. Organic social will also be part of the gig, so we’d love someone who lives and breathes it.

You will be working on a highly-collaborative team of recognized clients in the QSR and retail/home furnishings categories. The ideal candidate would be based in Philadelphia, NYC or Austin.

As an Art Director you will

  • Build stand-out visual creative in a wide variety of styles from concept to execution

  • Have the ability to push past the initial idea to something unexpected and eye catching

  • Stay up to date on the latest trends across the design and social media landscape

  • Form strong creative partnership with copywriters, strategists and ACDs

  • Be able to develop ideas independently and working within a group

  • Translate concepts into finely-polished designs, campaigns, sites, social assets, etc.

  • Develop and deliver thoughtful internal and client presentations, explaining rationale for design and conceptual decisions

  • Be able to maintain and enforce brand consistency across all mediums

  • Have a working knowledge of photography, sourcing stock and managing photo shoots

  • Ensure all visual content is engaging, on-brand, and optimized for different channels and platforms

About You

In short, you are eager to dive in, bring fun thinking to the table and be a part of a dynamic creative team.

  • At least 2-3 years of design and art direction experience in an agency or studio setting.

  • 360-campaign experience with an emphasis on digital/social

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably from an art school or an ad/design program

  • Know Photoshop, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite like the back of your hand. AfterEffects and Premiere are a plus.

  • Proactive and self-motivated problem solver who is eager to learn more

  • Active on social media and has a strong understanding of each platform and how to design for the nuances of each

  • On top of cultural moments and able to turn them into unique opportunities that are right for the brand

  • Ability to work collaboratively and constructively in a team environment

  • Can work closely with our video and animation team to translate designs into motion pieces

  • Adaptable and open to feedback and new ideas

  • Ability to conceptualize, produce and shoot a huge plus

  • Austin based, plus plus

About the team

The creative team you’d be joining at Material is a combination of copywriters, art directors and creative directors based in various locations around the U.S. Some of us used to work in an office together (pre-covid) and we’ve tried to recreate that same, fun culture now that we are a fully remote team. Austin is our homebase, so we often meet there for shoots (and sometimes even team hangs). We work hard because we genuinely care about the creative product we’re putting out, but we also care about each other and ensure the team dynamic reflects that.
