Job Overview

In this role, you will utilize your legal expertise and commercial insight to independently handle legal matters surrounding renewable energy transactions, including land acquisition and development initiatives. You will collaborate with diverse teams, including Project Development, Finance, EPC, O&M, and Transmission & Interconnection, to navigate the legal complexities of real estate and land development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in lease negotiations, land options, purchase agreements, easements, and entitlements for utility-scale renewable projects (solar, wind, energy storage) nationwide.
  • Draft, modify, and negotiate legal agreements pertaining to land for renewable energy projects.
  • Assist the Real Estate team with title, survey, and mineral due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with land use regulations.
  • Oversee the financial closing of land development transactions, ensuring all legal obligations are met.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including outside counsel, on the land acquisition process and project financing legal initiatives.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of lease negotiations, land title issues, and mineral rights.
  • Proven track record in drafting and reviewing real estate documentation, including purchase agreements, lease terms, easements, and licenses.
  • Strong proficiency in land negotiations and managing complex commercial real estate transactions.
  • Familiarity with financial closing processes related to real estate and participation in intricate M&A transactions.
  • Understanding of the utility-scale renewables development process, including interconnection, permitting, and PPA negotiations.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of legal experience focused on large infrastructure land development transactions, particularly in grid-connected utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Recent experience as a licensed attorney or counsel specializing in renewable energy initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Solid foundation in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing real estate documents.
