Job Overview

We are actively seeking a proficient Medical/Dental Biller to become an integral part of our team. This remote role focuses on the efficient processing and payment of claims using the Athena EMR platform. You will play a vital role in supporting our health centers, including school-based health facilities, by meticulously reviewing claims, posting payments, following up on accounts, and addressing inquiries from both patients and staff. Demonstrating your expertise in this position may lead to further responsibilities and career advancement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and submit claims through billing software, managing both electronic and paper claims.
  • Monitor unpaid claims, ensuring follow-up within standard billing cycles.
  • Verify the accuracy of insurance payments and compliance standards.
  • Liaise with insurance companies to resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Obtain necessary pre-authorizations as required.
  • Process billing for secondary and tertiary insurances as needed.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of accounts for patient follow-up or insurance concerns.
  • Investigate and appeal denied claims.
  • Confirm patient eligibility and benefits for treatments and procedures.
  • Audit patient bills for accuracy and collect any missing information.
  • Respond promptly to patient and insurance inquiries related to accounts.
  • Establish patient payment plans and oversee collection accounts.
  • Maintain cash spreadsheets and generate collection reports.
  • Ensure all deadlines are adhered to meticulously.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, which is critical for this role.

Required Skills

  • Independent work capability coupled with strong problem-solving skills to effectively prioritize tasks and achieve precise results.
  • Proficient data entry skills along with experience in Practice Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to perform appointment scheduling with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and motivated self-starter.
  • Team-oriented approach complemented by excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation are necessary.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Health Care Administration is preferred.
  • A background of one to three years in billing within a medical or dental office, ideally in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as knowledge of Practice Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with CPT & ICD-10 coding is advantageous; experience with medical terminology is beneficial.
