Job Summary

At Boatsetter, we're reimagining how people access and enjoy boating, on-the-water and outdoor experiences. As our Director of Product Design, you'll lead the charge in creating intuitive, user-centric designs that simplify the complexities of selecting, booking, and sharing experiences. Your expertise will shape every touchpoint of our digital platform, ensuring seamless interactions for owners, renters, and captains alike. By leading a team of talented designers, you'll drive innovation that positions Boatsetter at the forefront of the industry. Your strategic vision will be crucial in expanding our reach, making the joys of boating and outdoor activities accessible to a global audience with just a few taps on a screen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership

    • Champion design as a core pillar of our product strategy, aligning with the Boatsetter brand.

    • Develop and implement overall design strategy, processes, and standards

    • Design System & Component Library.

    • Innovate and collaborate to find simple solutions for complex problems.

  • Data-Informed User Centric Approach

    • Lead user research initiatives to deeply understand user problems, context and mindset.

    • Ensure designs undergo thorough usability testing before development.

  • Design System & Standards

    • Establish and evolve our design systems, creating scalable frameworks that ensure design consistency and efficiency across products.

    • Maintain consistent, high-quality deliverables that adhere to the Design System and best practices, including accessibility standards.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Foster strong relationships with Product Management, Engineering, and Marketing teams.

    • Balance collaborative input while clearly communicating design rationales and decision processes.

    • Streamline the design process through effective collaboration.

  • Team Development

    • Provide comprehensive documentation of tools, resources, and processes.

    • Create a culture of continuous learning through workshops, courses, and certifications.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record of impactful UX work that directly contributed to business goals, with 10+ years of experience and 5+ years of management experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to find simple, innovative solutions for complex problems

  • Strong team leadership and mentoring experience, with successful hiring outcomes and experience growing a team and team capabilities from small to large.

  • Deep user empathy, especially in complex purchasing situations and marketplace environments.

  • Robust processes for problem discovery, research, and design validation

  • Expertise in design thinking and helping teams focus on critical issues through framing, prototyping, and feedback loops.

  • Proficiency with latest design technologies and in particular Figma.  Strong understanding of front-end technologies and design patterns.
