Job description

The purpose of the job is to provide the organization of the Library. The role foresees the management of Library activities in order to provide a high-quality service to students and teachers.

Key purpose of the role

  • Reference Service – to provide personal assistance to library users seeking information; to arrange one-to-one reference sessions in order to support students in finding resources needed for research projects; to address online and in person enquiries regarding location and retrieval of information relevant for student’s needs; coordinate and deliver information and digital literacy sessions to students, researchers and staff; contribute to academic course development and liaise with academic departments; support students with academic writing and referencing system application through personal session and workshops.

  • Acquisitions & Bibliographic Service - to maintain online catalogue's records up to date; to assess library resources needs according to the reading lists and liaise with the Director of Education to allocate budget in order to purchase the required items; to renew subscriptions to magazines; to catalogue new arrivals (books and magazines) on the back end of Heritage Cirqa LMS (Library Management system); time to time, to retrospective catalogue existing resources; to barcode and label resources with the relevant shelf-mark; promote library resources and services to students, faculty and staff through orientations, training, workshops, and networking

  • Material Library –to provide information and support students who need information regarding their student visa, how to get it before arriving in Paris and how to renew it once the student is in France, to give information about social security in France, our partnership with the real-estate agency Paris Hospitality, accommodations and our partnership for the bank; to liaise with the prefecture, real-estate agency and bank regarding our partnerships to have updated information. Students can reach the librarian by email or schedule appointments in person.

  • Collection management - to perform collection audit and location control; to rearrange the collection and upgrade the storage, improving housekeeping and re-housing collections; to collaborate with other librarians and Director of Education to make decisions on items in the collection.

  • Administration – to add new users to the library catalogue and keep it up to date; to check items out to students and check them in on return; to register students in the relevant online platforms (Edited, and so on); to create classes and register students to Turnitin.

Education and skills

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Previous experience working in a library environment, preferably in the academic sectors

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent customer service ethos and a high level of patience

  • Must be a team-player and willing to collaborate and contribute to the work of a team

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to prioritise own workload and co-ordinate tasks to meet deadlines

  • High level of IT literacy, previous experience working with Library Management Systems and electronic resources desirable

  • Nice to have completed, or be about to complete, a CILIP accredited Library and Information Studies degree
