Description

Summary: 

The AV / IPTV Field Engineer’s primary responsibility shall be to configure, test, adjust, and commission Audio Visual and IPTV systems, bringing projects to completion and ensuring quality. They must understand design, demonstrate installation and commissioning techniques. Candidates must be able to understand Audio/Video systems, IPTV systems, and have a solid technical background. They must have experience with diagnosing and commissioning video, audio, control, IT/networking systems. The Field Engineer will work closely with the Field Manager, Engineers, Installers and Project Managers to provide both general and specific recommendations on installation standards, technologies, personnel, job specifics and implementation. For all types of systems, upon completion, the Field Engineer shall provide red lined drawings and, in some cases, may act as Project Supervisor.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with PM or Lead Installer to create or delegate task lists as appropriate to other technicians on a specific job.
  • Work with engineering team & management to continuously develop internal commissioning documents, best practices, and standards.
  • Serve as a role model for other technicians by exhibiting a high quality of work, an excellent work ethic, and a positive attitude.
  • Attend drawing reviews, analyze design, and interpret system drawings as needed.
  • Proactively identify areas of concern with system design, equipment integration and end-user functionality needs.
    • See past the system drawings and understand end-user functional requirements. Install and configure systems in a way that reflects the intended system design, but also is in the client’s best interest, communicating with sales, engineering, and project management as appropriate.
  • Verify that installations are correct and recommend corrective action if necessary.
  • Configure all devices to the point that the system is functioning as intended by engineering including networking components, audio & video switching, projection, displays, video walls, cameras, microphones, audio DSP, etc.
  • Provide troubleshooting, installation, configuration, and testing of all digital display and IPTV systems to include but not limited to LED content playback and processor systems, monitors, digital media players, fiber converters, projection systems, digital signage displays, LED displays, RF cable systems, streaming and encoding technologies, and more.
  • Perform hardware upgrades to all AV components and program audio, video, IT, and IPTV equipment / servers.
  • Ability to terminate all types of video, audio, control, and network cabling. 
  • Creation, modification, and system tuning of audio DSP files for various manufacturers (Biamp, QSC, Symetrix, BSS), and ability to test and troubleshoot.
  • Use of laptop and test equipment to ensure proper installation and quality control of integrated AV systems. Full system functionality testing and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals. such as TCP/IP, addressing, firewalls, routers, VLANs, and VPN and ability to configure networked AV devices, networked audio (AVB, Dante, etc.), and Video over IP (NVX, Evertz, SVSI, NAV, etc.).
  • Communicate with the client, project manager, salesperson and engineer on status updates, issues, and suggestions. Provide client training and demonstrations as required
  • Work with subcontractors and/or third parties as necessary including the ability to work with a remote system programmer to load and diagnose problems and interfaces.
  • Work with on-site tech team to identify and finalize punch list items.
  • Document system configurations, and commissioning reports, review redline drawings for as-built accuracy, communicate punch lists, daily reports & programming coordination details.
  • Compile system commissioning reports and perform system tests to verify proper functionality.
  • Assist with project closeout documentation and obtaining customer acceptance forms.
  • Act as the final point of quality control on work performed by Alpha Video staff and contractors, to ensure that all deliverables meet and conform to safety and quality requirements.
  • Operate and maintain assigned Alpha vehicles and tools in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Up to 70% travel, occasionally on a last-minute basis
  • Occasional evening and weekend work
  • Must be able to climb ladders up to 24’ tall and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Crestron, Extron, Tripleplay, Scala or similar system experience
  • Some system engineering background preferred
  • IP design and theory
  • Knowledge of display products and systems

 

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience
  • Additional advanced or product specific certifications are preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

 

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • BlueBeam preferred
  • Experience with Windows Sever, SQL, Linux, IP Network configuration, Multicast

 

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • CTS, CTS-I preferred or attainable within one year
  • Additional AV certification preferred

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift, raise, lower, push or carry up to 50 lbs. from ground to waist, waist to overhead and from one surface to another at mid-level.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel or crawl.
  • Ability to ascend or descend structures like ladders, scaffolding, ropes, or poles that require the use of both upper and lower body to climb up to 25 feet tall.
  • Ability to work on equipment that is over individuals head and shoulders/at or below the shoulders while standing/sitting.
  • Ability to walk/navigate/stand on both even and uneven surfaces.
  • Physical dexterity to manipulate small parts including ability to grasp and pinch small objects.
  • Ability to enter text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a traditional keyboard or 10-Key.
  • Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (that is, working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
  • Clarity of depth perception both less than 20 inches and more than 20 inches.
  • Ability to accurately determine color and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
