Your missions

SATCOM Engineer

Fairwinds Technologies is looking for an experienced Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Engineer to lead efforts in the design, planning, installation, and maintenance of DoD Satellite Communications systems to include antennas, modems, protocols, and waveforms and the ability to interact with both customers & engineering design teams to identify approaches to test and evaluate technologies and identify current issues and correct those to customer satisfaction.

This position is contingent upon contract award. 

Qualifications

  • ACTIVE Secret Security Clearance
  • 15+ years’ experience
  • Electrical, Electronics, Computer, or Systems Engineering Degree is preferred but not mandatory. 
  • 5 years’ experience with designing tests for SATCOM reflector-based antennas. 
  • Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of test processes and equipment.
  • Experience with SATCOM, Terrestrial Wireless/Radio Systems.
  • Willingness to adapt and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to meet long-lead and/or tight deliverable deadlines.
  • Knowledge of SATCOM theory and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of SATCOM system equipment maintenance procedures, policies, and requirements.
  • Ability to remain flexible in the face of changing customer and organizational priorities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Write and maintain regression test plans and procedures as needed.
  • Perform system, sub-system and unit level design, as necessary, to determine if the design is both adequate to meet program requirements and cost effective.
  • Perform Operations and Maintenance (O&M) on SATCOM satellite systems to include all hardware and software associated with their specific systems; baseband equipment suites; power generation subsystems; power distribution and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) subsystems; and Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) to ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Provide analysis support of mechanical, thermal, environmental, acoustic, shock, propulsion, mass properties, structural loads, stress, deployment, alignment, reliability, and mission assurance, to verify the satellite design will satisfy the system requirements.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to monitor component and subsystems, evaluating performance and environmental test results, and troubleshooting anomalies and test failures.
  • Engage with multiple customers, to create and provide necessary various metrics products that provide analytical support for the program.
  • Analyze engineering-design concepts to recommend design or test methods for attaining or improving specified operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies.
  • Support preventative and predictive maintenance objectives. 
  • Prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Provide support to establish adequate spare parts and preventative maintenance tasks on equipment and assist with supply processes to include Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).
  • Manage site inspection activities to ensure quality, safety, and compliance requirements are maintained as described in the Performance Work Statement, site specific Occupational Safety and Health Administration publications, and local/state policies/regulations, etc.
  • Support the Program Manager with ensuring compliance with contract requirements associated with deliverables and performance standards.
  • Excellent written and organization skills.
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, and practices. 
  • Close attention to detail and the ability to plan ahead.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

 

Additional Experience Desired

  • Knowledge of military Satellite Communication methodology and practices.
  • Graduate of a Satellite Communications Military Technical Training Course.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:  

Must be eligible to work in the US.

Must have an active Government security clearance of at least the Secret level.
