Safety Engineer (Remote with Travel)

Safety Engineer

Fairwinds Technologies is looking for an experienced Safety Engineer to assess potentials risks, creating mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with safety standards to prevent accidents and injuries by implementing safety protocols, working with key stakeholders to provide technical guidance on SATCOM equipment design requirements and the ability to interact with both customers & engineering design teams to identify approaches to test and evaluate technologies and identify current issues and correct those to customer satisfaction.

This position is contingent upon contract award. 

Qualifications

• ACTIVE Secret Security Clearance
• 10+ years’ experience
• Electrical, Electronics, Computer, or Systems Engineering Degree is preferred but not mandatory. 
• Willingness to adapt and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
• Ability to meet long-lead and/or tight deliverable deadlines.
• Knowledge of SATCOM system equipment maintenance procedures, policies, and requirements.
• Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all hazardous materials.
• Ability to remain flexible in the face of changing customer and organizational priorities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a safety program to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions, utilizing knowledge of industry practices.
• Reviews plans and specifications for SATCOM equipment to determine if all safety precautions have been included.
• Develop and update safety assessment reports per contract performance work statement (PWS) in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and relevant CDRL, documenting safety risks and hazards associated with the system.
• Identify safety features of SATCOM system hardware and software configurations, specific controls and precautions to be followed when using the terminal.
• Continually verify compliance of all set safety standards.
• Provide conclusions and suggestions, to include a summary of important residual hazards.
• Ability to evaluate Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Personnel to IEEE C95.1.2345 standard for Military Workplaces – Force Health Protection.
• Ability to evaluate and calculate Hazards of Electronic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO), Hazards of Electronic Radiation to Personnel (HERP), and Hazards of Electronic Radiation to Fuel (HERF) analysis and testing to NAVSEA OP 3565 Electromagnetic Radiation Hazard standards.
• Ability to determine noncompliance of certain safety requirements and document justifications of those noncompliance’s.
• Determine requirements for safety for safety clothing and devices, and designs, builds, and installs, or directs installation of, safety devices on equipment.
• Investigates accidents to minimize reoccurrence and prepare accident reports.
• Apply engineering knowledge to monitor safety of component and subsystems.
• Analyze engineering-design concepts to recommend design or test methods for attaining or improving safety and operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies.
• Support preventative and predictive maintenance objectives. 
• Prepares technical reports to document equipment safety and equipment maintenance standards.
• Manage site inspection activities to ensure quality, safety, and compliance requirements are maintained as described specific Occupational Safety and Health Administration publications, and local/state policies/regulations, etc.
• Support the Program Manager with ensuring compliance with contract requirements associated with deliverables and quality standards.
• Excellent written and organization skills.
• Adheres to company policies, procedures, and practices. 
• Close attention to detail and the ability to plan ahead.
• Additional duties may be assigned.

Additional Experience Desired

• Knowledge of military Satellite Communication methodology and practices.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:  

Must be eligible to work in the US.

Must have an active Government security clearance of at least the Secret level.
