GEICO’s seeking an accomplished Staff Engineer to join our Cyber Automation team. This role focuses on enhancing our cybersecurity capabilities, hygiene, and posture through automation, playing a pivotal role in our security engineering efforts.
Position Description:
As a Staff Engineer in Cybersecurity Automation, you will collaborate with our engineering teams to innovate and build new systems while enhancing existing ones. You will identify and address critical security challenges, driving the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that accelerates product delivery and unlocks new engineering capabilities. A strong background in security tooling automation, open-source solutions, and programming languages is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership: Provide thought leadership and guidance in solving complex security and automation challenges.
Collaboration: Work closely with managers, team members, and other engineering teams to develop effective solutions.
Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of all solutions delivered.
System Design: Leverage extensive hands-on experience in complex system design and data pipeline architectures, focusing on scale, performance, and tuning.
Programming Proficiency: Be fluent in multiple programming languages (e.g., Java, Go, Python, C++) and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell).
Open-Source Expertise: Understand and work with open-source security products such as Security Onion, Snort, OpenVAS, Grafana, and others.
Mentorship: Act as a role model and mentor, coaching and guiding team members to enhance their technical expertise.
Process Improvement: Share best practices consistently and drive continuous improvement across teams.
Resource Management: Determine resource needs, evaluate operational processes, and measure outcomes to ensure desired results.
CI/CD Familiarity: Utilize experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, CircleCI), with knowledge of Terraform or Ansible as a plus.
Security Tooling Knowledge: Apply deep knowledge of security tools and frameworks, focusing on enhancements, support, and automation.
Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment, taking ownership of solutions from requirements gathering to deployment.
Innovation: Demonstrate creativity and responsiveness with a strong sense of urgency in delivering solutions.
Leadership: Facilitate knowledge sharing and assist others in understanding technical and business topics.
Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with the latest cybersecurity trends, technologies, and best practices.
Qualifications for Staff Engineer
In-depth knowledge of computer science data structures and algorithms
Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code (IaC)
Familiarity with developer tooling across the software development lifecycle
Familiarity with security tooling and frameworks
Experience with on-premises, cloud, and SaaS solutions
Hands-on experience in building applications and enterprise solutions
Knowledge of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies
Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, CircleCI)
Knowledge of monitoring software such as Grafana and Prometheus
Experience:
6+ years of professional related experience.
6+ years with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar).
6+ years in security engineering and technology or related role
6+ years with system architecture and design related work
4+ years of experience with open-source frameworks
People management experience is a plus
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or equivalent education or work experience.
Annual Salary
$90,000.00 - $230,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
