Job description

Business Insider is hiring a video production fellow to join our video team and produce and edit stories about fascinating industries and the people powering them.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This paid role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Fellowships can be hybrid, and we expect New York-based fellows to come into our offices at least twice per week.

The Role & Team:

As a Big Business and Marathons fellow, you will spend your time assisting the production of videos across a range of subjects. Production Fellows work closely with producers, cinematographers, animators, editors to create videos for a wide audience across the web and various social media platforms. Candidates should be familiar with our existing videos and eager to contribute work in our style.

This role reports directly to the Supervising Producer for the show and sits on the video team. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, pitch and report ideas for the show and marathons
  • Interview sources in various fields of work
  • Execute scripts into visually engaging videos that will be shared across platforms
  • Edit 8-12 minute documentaries and marathons using Adobe Premiere
  • Collaborate with the larger team on pre-production, production and post-production workflows 

The ideal candidate has:

  • A passion for storytelling through video 
  • Strong pre-production skills including creating shot lists, organizing call sheets, and assembling/managing gear is a plus
  • Video research skills
  • Skills in Adobe Premiere, Photoshop. Proficiency in Illustrator, After Effects, and other Adobe software is a plus.
  • Experience using audio and digital video equipment including Canon, Panasonic, and Sony cameras

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

  • Voracious reading habits
  • Familiarity with digital and social media
  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
  • Proofreading and copyediting skills
  • A love of Business Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun 

Salary & Benefits:

  • Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
