Director, Compliance (Audit & Assurance)

The Director, Compliance (Audit & Assurance) is a senior leader that focuses on compliance risk mitigation strategies and programs to help demonstrate a culture of compliance while also enabling and empowering new and innovative ways to help our businesses succeed.  

This role is responsible for both Compliance’s Audit and Reviews Program and Assurance Program, that help achieve a sustainable compliance environment protecting and strengthening our brand, and growing confidence and commitment to our products and services.

What you'll do:

  • Manage and oversee compliance assurance program as a pilar of compliance framework with program design updates, documentation, and improvements, where warranted,  to ensure effective and sustainable identification of performance health  in the execution  of compliance requirements, and to detect early warning signs of potential compliance risks.  Program management and execution includes:
    • Inventory of controls, documentation, and maintenance
    • KPIs and KRIs, including statistical/probability analysis
    • Qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, including rating and prioritization
    • Developing and executing testing plans
    • Conducting root cause analysis
    • Controls planning
    • Process owner engagement and meeting routines – testing, monitoring, remediation life-cycle
    • Compliance health reporting and escalations
    • Designing and delivering documented reviews that provide strong insight and value by identifying risks and issues, articulating root causes, outcomes and consequences to support corrective actions or the further embedding robust controls and processes at a fundamental level.

  • Oversee and manage audits and exams program and processes, including audits and reviews conducted internally and by third parties.
  • Update and maintain program documentation, including procedures and/or processes, and reporting.
  • Coordinate audits and reviews, including managing relationships, and executing internal coordination of people, processes, and technology in preparation, and physical and electronic information coordination, collection, and management.
  • Serve as primary point of contact and coordinator for outsourced audit related  functions.
  • Manage and oversee the Compliance Issues Management program, including program improvement and documentation, issues tracking, creating and maintaining matrix of issues owners, stakeholders, and risk rating through assessments; establishing or improving routines that identify and capture issues, monitoring of action plan execution through to issues resolution, and validation of resolution.
  • Maintain and serve as custodian for risk rating and prioritization matrix, including annual review and updates.
  • Maintain, and serve a custodian for, applicability and impact matrix, working with Compliance leaders to ensure current status, and accuracy; and management of process for routine updates. 
  • Manage or participate as the key stakeholder in audits and reviews.
  • Manage third-party, client and internal communications - analyzing, communicating, disseminating as aligned to core functions.
  • Actively lead/participate in projects and initiatives where  compliance centric.
  • Manage and/or oversee third parties that provide services directly to or that impact  core functions within purview of roles and responsibilities. External engagement in industry organizations, forums and other platforms that are material to compliance and change.
  • Serve as a liaison with auditors, regulators, business partners.
  • Recruit, lead and grow strong talent.

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • At least 10 years of compliance program experience (e.g., policies, procedures, training), with a minimum of 8 years in compliance assurance, including statistical analysis, testing and monitoring plan development, and minimum of 5 years writing and executing procedures and processes for compliance related programs.
  • At least 7 years in audit and reviews management and coordination, including direct communication and coordination with internal executive levels, and with external governing entities.
  • At least 5 years in payments or equivalent experience that includes working directly with the card brands (e.g., Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover).
  • At least 5 years applicability of laws and regulations, and formulating and execution of compliance risk assessments.
  • At least 3 Experience managing third parties that execute requirements on behalf of company.
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple programs in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and significant time pressures.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop others.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate changes in laws, regulations, and rules to senior management, product development and product managers, business partners, and customers.
  • Assurance, including testing and monitoring, identification and use of KPIs and KRIs, and accompanying data analytics.
  • Ability to translate compliance requirements into business requirements in support of people, processes, and technology execution, management, and controls.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with understanding of strategic vision and context.

  • Ability to lead and influence people to successfully execute strategies across functions and at senior levels using sound judgment. 
  • Proven ability to communicate, collaborate and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, internal and external business partners, and with regulatory and external independent review entities.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external cross-functional teams to drive programs and/or products.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to think and communicate creatively, thoughtfully, and on your feet with diverse technical and non-technical groups, spanning all organizational levels.
  • Strategic thinker and tactical executor - able to rapidly shift from “big picture” to “detailed operations”.
  • Strong team player with excellent track record of success in highly matrixed, fast-paced environments with changing priorities
  • Leadership and judgment to analyze, evaluate, develop and effectuate solutions to complex problems.

Certifications (Preferred):

Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Payments Professional (CPP), Six Sigma.

Salary Range: $107,000 - $184,000 

Pay within this range varies by work location and on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We look forward to discussing your salary expectations and our full total rewards offerings throughout the interview process.
