Associate Director, R&D Digital Health

The Global Integrated Evidence and Innovation (GIE&I) team at Otsuka is the R&D engine behind these digital health products and programs, working collaboratively with Otsuka's affiliate companies to advance research for digital technologies that address unmet needs for patients. We are seeking experts in digital health to join our R&D team.

The Associate Director of Digital Health R&D will play a key role in our digital health enterprise spanning digital biomarker development to digital therapeutics. The successful candidate will have experience with deploying digital health technologies in clinical trials and programs with a firm grasp on the challenges and solutions

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for the digital biomarker team to inform, optimize, and execute the digital health R&D strategy of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the early phase translational team to develop integrated biomarker / translational plans incorporating digital measures/biomarkers in conjunction with other biomarker modalities.
  • Conduct market and technology landscape reviews to identify digital health solutions that address clinical program needs.
  • Determine levels of verification, analytical validation, and clinical validation for digital devices to assess if they are fit-for-purpose use in clinical trials.
  • Work with external vendors and cross-functional teams (translational medicine, data science, data & analytics applied innovation, clinical development and clinical operations) on the scientific evaluation, recommendation, design, and execution of digital health technologies in clinical trials and programs.
  • (Desirable) – Collaborate on novel algorithm development and advanced analytic plans for use of digital health technologies in a study.
  • Work with internal and external partners to monitor the ecosystem for emerging technologies and novel biomarkers, measurement techniques, and novel data sources and platforms.
  • Educate the team on the current landscape of digital health technology topics including those around measurement, analysis, and interpretation of data.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to drive prioritization of digital health technologies across R&D; educate the organization on the value of digital health technologies.
  • Develop a dashboard that aggregates and communicates progress with digital health technologies in the organization to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Otsuka Precision Health and Otsuka Digital BD on digital health initiatives and support due diligence on choice technology vendors.
  • Present to leadership in various governance forums on progress and challenges of various digital health initiatives; present risk mitigation strategies as challenges occur.
  • Provides R&D support and input on testing and developing a digital therapeutic pipeline across the life cycle of products.

Qualifications/Required Knowledge/Experience Skills:

  • (Desirable) Experience in the pharma industry
  • Proven track record of delivering digital health tools and technologies in clinical programs with complex business needs
  • Self-directed with eternal curiosity and desire to learn
  • Shows accountability, leading without authority, and collaboration in a consensus-building organization

Educational Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in a neuroscience, psychological sciences, clinical sciences, or a technical discipline with 10 years of relevant experience, or MS with 8 years, or PhD with 4 years required (MD, Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree preferred).

Minimum $160,530.00 - Maximum $240,005.00, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting salary for candidates hired to perform the work. Other elements may be used to determine actual salary such as the candidate’s job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in role.
