Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering to join the LNA Corporate Team. This is a remote position. The Director, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will lead the company’s vision and strategy to recommend and integrate, advanced manufacturing tools, equipment, and processes for various manufacturing plants including low, medium and high volume with varying degrees of complexity. The position will collaborate with development engineering, systems product engineering and plant manufacturing teams to ensure that processes are effectively carried forward to integrate into our manufacturing operations. Applying advanced technologies, such as robotics, automation, autonomation, and other Industry 4.0 standards will support the company’s operations transformational strategy to enable high volume production plant design and considerations unique to each of our businesses and industries we serve.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Leads the company’s (“LNCA”) Industry 4.0 initiatives by providing a framework, organizational support, thought leadership, SME technical expertise, and program oversight to achieve national and international company goals.
  • Leads manufacturing process energy efficiency program(s) to reduce year over year energy consumption reduction by defining best practices & solutions (machine & process) for the shop floor and engineering guides for design engineering.
  • Works with organizations within LNCA and leading targeted SME councils to drive best practice sharing to drive process improvement, efficiency, utilization, OEE, and profitability.
  • Drives manufacturing engineering principles and discipline through mentoring, training and project reviews including:  PFMEA, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Dynamic Control Plans (DCP), 8D’s, Project Management
  • Leads LNCA manufacturing capital process.  Provides guidance and oversight on capital planning / budgeting, CER creation, and capital acquisition due diligence through commission.
  • Develops and deploys LNCA best practices on capital equipment. Including but not limited to machine, gauging, tooling and equipment procurement process (quoting, supplier selection, machine specification, run-off, installation), training and launch
  • Best process / standardization
  • Work with divisional engineering and operations to develop and deploy a robust VA/VE process, pipeline and execution process.
  • Capacity utilization and OEE process excellence
  • Drives annual improvement in safety, environment, and health risk reductions associated with LNCA capital equipment. Including but not limited to meeting OSHA minimum compliant safety regulations
  • Stays abreast of next generation manufacturing and operational enablement technologies with potential application within Legrand LNCA
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.
Qualifications:

Required Skills

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Industrial or related Engineering degree or equivalent knowledge education and experience. A Masters in Mechanical Engineering or similar and/or an Master’s in Business Administration is preferred. 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering management in high complexity fabrication and assembly shops with vertically integrated companies.
  • High mix environments (process development; tooling, fixturing, programming, metrology, machine tool procurement and commissioning).
  • High mix assembly environments ranging from make-to-stock to engineering-to-order complexities.
  • Complex capital project management.
  • Transformation experience preferred.
  • APQP/PPAP – new product launch.
  • New process development and Value Add/Value Engineering (VA/VE).
  • TPM - Total productive maintenance.
  • Business acumen around standard costing and direct costing.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Exceptional computer skills, extensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, proficiency with various e-mail, calendaring, meeting management and related communications software.  Must be able to navigate in a Microsoft Office 365 environment including Microsoft Teams, PowerBI and other business applications.
  • Requires strong organizational, time, and project management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities. Must have strong analytical skills, ability to evaluate situations, identify options and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.  Able to resolve multiple conflicts between widely varying personalities and perspectives.
  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment. 
  • Fluent knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering, fabrication, assembly and quality control processes.
  • Advanced problem solving including demonstrated ability to systematically determine root cause using 6-Sigma, DOE, A3, 9 Step Problem Solving, and 5-Why tools. 
  • Ability to utilize engineering principles to develop robust manufacturing processes and improve process capability.
  • Ability to quickly assess manufacturing issues related to design and tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of basic design and manufacturing datum development and its effect on manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of new model launch requirements and processes.
  • Ability to use such management-leadership techniques such as; project mgt., objective development and project review disciplines.
  • Strong leadership skills to drive engineering principles and processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lean principles.
  • Cross functional communication, simultaneous engineering and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a globally complex supply chain.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various functions; product engineering, NPD, supply chain, production management, EHS, etc.
  • Ability to manage both day-to-day tactical issues as well as strategic and transformational priorities.
  • Engineering Software skills: CAD (Pro E or equivalent), CNC programming, MES and PLM fundamentals.
