Position at Confluent Inc

With Confluent, organizations can harness the full power of continuously flowing data to innovate and win in the modern digital world. We have a purpose that drives us to do better every day – we're creating an entirely new category within data infrastructure - data streaming. This technology will allow every organization to create experiences and use the power of data in ways that profoundly impact the way we all live. This impact is our purpose and drives us to do better every day.

One Confluent. One team. One Data Streaming Platform.

Data Connects Us.

About the Role:

The Infrastructure and Developer Productivity organization at Confluent is seeking a multi-faceted TPM to drive DevProd engineering, best practices, and developer platform paved-path initiatives while collaborating with technical stakeholders across the engineering organization. The role requires help realizing a strong developer platform vision and roadmap as well as socializing adoption for developer platform tooling initiatives. This role focuses on delivering and measuring value to internal engineering teams. You should be comfortable and experienced in driving and delivering highly complex projects on time, especially infrastructure or developer-related platform projects. These projects typically span multiple quarters across multiple teams, functions, and geographies.

What You Will Do:

  • Drive planning, resourcing, and roadmap decisions, championing the developers’ perspective based on data.
  • Build JIRA dashboards and write biweekly stakeholder/leadership Slack/Wiki reports to track metrics and KPIs for measuring QoQ and YoY dev prod improvements and progress over time.
  • Wear the product manager’s hat to evangelize and socialize developer platform adoption.
  • Work with engineering/security/product/support/vendor stakeholders to drive cross-cutting and/or critical initiatives for the company.
  • Engage our internal engineering teams as customers, to gather development lifecycle points of friction and help bridge the continuous feedback loop.
  • Work with developer productivity ambassadors in the organization to drive initiatives.
  • Lead execution with best practices TPM rigor to ensure that we are able to deliver projects on time with less organizational friction.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve roadblocks/challenges affecting projects.
  • Train and help other leaders to become better in program management.
  • Make technical decisions and tradeoffs to mitigate risks.
  • Explain technical architecture, technical options, decisions, and tradeoffs to both engineering and other functions.
  • Work with Engineering, Product, and Security leadership to streamline and drive our projects on a predictable schedule.
  • Run cross-functional meetings, drive decision-making, and provide regular stakeholder reporting and visibility.
  • Put together quarterly Devprod newsletters for leadership visibility.

What You Will Bring:

  • Prior TPM experience (3-5 years) of driving complex projects that are multiphase, multi-quarter, spanning many eng teams/orgs projects in developer experience or infrastructure or platform engineering across the organizations.
  • Experience in doing status reporting and building dashboards for tracking metrics and KPIs in one or more tools (JIRA, Tableau, Data Studio, BigQuery, etc.).
  • Prior experience working closely with developers from ideation to production phases in mature, fast-paced startup environments with a solid understanding of developer pain points.
  • Domain knowledge of developer tools, build, testing frameworks, CI/CD automation, release pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to work with both engineering leadership and other non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing end-to-end lifecycle of technical projects.
  • Strong technical background is desirable, with experience in actual design and development of software projects.

What Gives You an Edge:

  • Are smart, humble, and empathetic.
  • Have a strong sense of teamwork and put the team’s and company’s interests first.
  • Are driven and excited about the developer experience.
  • Brings divergent ideas and teams with competing priorities to a common unified execution plan to achieve big goals.
  • Can lead in an ambiguous, fast-paced workplace where you seek to move the needle and get stuff done!
  • Can work with autonomy, engage, and lead the charge.
