Job description

ERM is seeking a motivated and committed junior professional to join our Capital Project Delivery team in Spain. This position will focus on biodiversity impact assessment and due diligence projects. The role will involve working with other ecologists and project managers in the renewables, resources, planning, government and natural capital accounting sectors in Europe and Africa.

The applicant will have experience with environmental assessment and will show an interest in applying knowledge and skills to help our clients solve challenges in these sectors. The successful candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary impact assessment team in Iberia and of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts.

The role will be based in either Madrid or Barcelona, with frequent travels within and outside Europe, and possibility of remote working when not travelling.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform biodiversity surveys, organize information and analyse complex situations.
  • Support preparation of biodiversity assessments for EIAs, ESDDs, Biodiversity Action Plans (and other environmental studies) and associated management plans in compliance with applicable local and regional requirements.
  • Develop analyses in Due Diligence projects in accordance with international standards, such as International Finance Corporate (IFC) and Equator Principles.
  • Perform project delivery activities including but not limited to field surveys, literature reviews, report writing, and developing recommendations for clients.
  • Work on multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables and timely delivery of reports.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, landowners, and clients during field activities, as required.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, or related field.
  • Ideally 2 years experience in ecology assessment, data collection (field and lab), analysis, and EIAs, ESDDs reporting.
  • Desired previous experience in Environment, Biodiversity, and Ecosystem Services, in the sectors of renewables, green hydrogen, infrastructure, extractive industries (onshore and/or offshore), and industrial areas.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
  • Due to the nature of the projects, fluence in English and French is required; knowledge of Spanish too would be ideal and an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
