As the Lead Game Designer on Palia you will guide a team of designers in forging the future path of Palia for years to come as well as ensuring the health, establishing the norms and guiding the culture of the design discipline itself.

What we are looking for:

  • Game Design Experience: 6+ years of experience as a professional game designer, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates your expertise in a variety of design competencies including systems, mechanics, balance and content on successful multiplayer games, preferably within the simulation genre.
  • Creative Vision: Ability to craft and articulate a compelling vision for gameplay, mechanics, and player engagement that aligns with Palia's unique cozy and community-focused experience.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring a team of designers, fostering creativity, collaboration, and productivity.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical skills with a knack for troubleshooting and iterating on design challenges to enhance game quality and player experience.
  • Player-Centric Approach: Deep understanding of player psychology and behavior, with a track record of designing features that enhance player immersion and community interaction.
  • Implementation Proficiency: You are familiar with Unreal Engine and are an effective implementer of any data or scripting required to deliver on your designs. You are also experienced in directing a team of designers to achieve similarly high quality results.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to both team members and stakeholders.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Expertise: Experience collaborating with other departments such as art, audio, and engineering to create cohesive and engaging gameplay experiences.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Online Communities: Previous work on games or platforms that emphasize online community building and social interactions.
  • Passion for Simulation Games: A genuine interest in and understanding of simulation games and their unique design considerations.
  • Knowledge of Palia’s Ecosystem: Familiarity with Palia’s existing mechanics, world-building, and core features would be a plus.
  • Data Informed: A track record of effectively using data on live service games to better inform design decision making and future priorities.
