Legal Counsel

London or Cardiff - Hybrid (2 days a week in the office)

(If London based, this role will require regular travel to the Cardiff office as a requirement of the role)

About RVU

At RVU we combine the close-knit and agile environment of a startup, with the know-how, technology and backing of a well-established company.

Our mission is to empower people to make confident decisions. With our unique set of brands, including Uswitch, Confused.com, Money.co.uk, and Tempcover, we have the power to reach millions of consumers and the technology to deliver a world class online experience for them.

RVU's purpose is to simplify complex marketplaces with intuitive and accessible applications that genuinely improve people’s lives. Saving a few hundred pounds a year on bills makes a fundamental difference to vulnerable people who sometimes have to choose between paying for utilities or groceries.

About the role:

We’ve got an opportunity for a qualified legal professional to join us, providing trusted legal advice to our commercial teams and contributing to new products and initiatives - no two days will be the same!

You’ll have an interest in a varied commercial legal workload, with strong drafting and negotiating skills, and the ability to apply them independently to drive the business forward and create real value. Outside of daily contracting, you’ll have a focus on developing and maintaining the legal processes, policies and precedents that underpin our business.

What you'll be doing:

● Working with our business teams to draft, negotiate and execute commercial agreements, whilst proactively maintaining and improving the processes that underpin them.

● Providing day-to-day legal perspective and guidance, as well as risk assessment and mitigation

● Advising our business teams on compliance with data protection and e-privacy laws

● Assisting with acquisitions and corporate integration projects

● Helping to establish and manage a framework of policies and guidance to manage legal and commercial issues within our business

What you'll bring to the role:

Essential:

  • 1 to 4 years’ post-qualification experience in-house or at a commercial or corporate law firm with experience providing full service commercial legal support (the reference to PQE is a guide only. We welcome applications from candidates with more or less PQE)
  • An experience and appreciation of the challenges and requirements of delivering legal support in a fast moving commercial in-house team with ability to be impactful from an early stage..
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales (or another common law jurisdiction)
  • Proven technical ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements to tight timescales
  • Experience of advising on IT, data protection/e-privacy laws as well as commercial and corporate law

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of intellectual property, competition law and regulated sector experience
  • Knowledge of the insurance and/or financial services

You don’t need to tick off everything on this list - so don’t let that hold you back from applying. We want to make sure you’re learning plenty during your time with us!

Our commitment to you:

At RVU we believe that we can be the change we wish to see in the world. We hold ourselves accountable to being open and inclusive teammates and community members. We embrace our differences and are committed to creating an inclusive environment that reflects the world we live in.
