THE ROLE
At VerticalScope, we are reimagining the future of online communities. We are seeking a dedicated professional for a full-time temporary role lasting 12 months to cover for a maternity leave. There is potential for a three-month extension following the initial contract, which will be evaluated by the six-month mark. Join our team and make an impact during this critical period!

This is a hybrid position that involves onsite work. Our office is located in downtown Toronto, and we commute three times a week from Tuesday to Thursday. We have a lively and collaborative office atmosphere.

Interim Director of Finance will help drive the preparation of our financial reporting. Reporting to the Controller, the Interim Director of Finance will own some of the most important factors in this preparation; including but not limited to consolidating financial statements and management discussion and analysis (MD&A), ensuring that our company procedures conform to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and that they are prepared for filing on SEDAR. You will be responsible for researching, developing, and documenting technical accounting memos and play an active role in the internal control structure. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Prepare and review work related to the Company's quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A, and related documents; working cross-functionally with other teams, and ensuring appropriate approval and review by senior management
- Be a subject matter expert on IFRS, with a focus on providing advice and guidance on technical accounting matters and preparation of documentation on the accounting assessment
- Implement new IFRS standards as applicable
- Act as a key liaison for the annual audit and quarterly review processes with external auditors
- Execute internal controls within the reporting process 
- Manage and  prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, certain accounting entries and account reconciliations for review and approval
- Assist with transfer pricing and provide input for monthly tax provisions and annual filings
- Continually seek to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting and financial statement close process
- Prepare quarterly and annual regulatory filings with the OSC and other regulatory agencies
- Promote collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge transfer within the finance team including training and review of work
- Other related responsibilities and ad hoc projects as negotiated and needed to meet the ongoing needs of the company

ABOUT YOU
- Five to ten years of professional accounting experience, including external financial reporting
- Strong knowledge of accounting practices under IFRS - particularly related to revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, systems and disclosures
- Friendly and professional demeanor and excitement about contributing to team culture to drive improvements
- Results-oriented with a can-do attitude - consistently delivering on time and striving for top-tier results
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Leadership and coaching capabilities with strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Advanced skills with Google Workplace, Excel and Word
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field
- CPA designation

- Experience working in publicly traded companies
- Experience working in the digital advertising or media industry
- Experience with Sage Intacct and Workiva
