A Brief Overview

The US LBM Commodity Buyer works with the Senior Buyer and the operational leadership by coordinating contract negotiations with critical commodity suppliers, organizing/conducting regional spot and block buys, and coordinating forward pricing to protect long-term customer contracts. The Commodity Buyer is also responsible for working with teammates to communicate the status of the volatile commodity markets to crucial stakeholders and monitoring commodity-related working capital performance/DSI compared to the target for their assigned areas.

What You Will Do

  • Participates in the annual commodity contract negotiation process for assigned areas; monitors and executes supplier agreements for their designated areas.
  • Procures commodity products for assigned areas.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with strategic commodity partners.
  • Transacts business with strategic commodity suppliers as assigned by leadership.
  • Participates in joint supplier/division business plan meetings to facilitate the achievement of objectives.
  • Provides guidance to operational leadership on the direction of the commodity markets.
  • Communicates new product opportunities to the divisions as applicable.
  • Participates in negotiations for new terms, rebates, and VMI programs for US LBM and divisions.
  • Helps resolve challenges between suppliers and US LBM operations, including but not limited to cost, quantities, AP variances, and late shipments.
  • Travels/visits divisions in their region quarterly to discuss pricing, strategy, and other updates.
  • Works with team to execute block buys/spot buys and forward pricing for the divisions to protect long-term customer contracts.
  • Complies with company safety, attendance, and ethics guidelines.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Concentration in Supply Chain studies preferred.

Experience Qualifications

  • 5 years of purchasing, inventory control/management, materials input, or warehousing experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of the building material industry to support Supply Chain objectives.

Skills And Abilities

  • A high degree of interpersonal communication for negotiation.
  • Mastery of the tools needed to extract data, conduct RFPs, manage and replenish inventory.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems.
  • Knowledge and skill to organize, plan, manage, execute, and evaluate projects.
