The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
Manages an accounting and financial reporting operation in a deadline focused environment with ultimate responsibility for the quality of the work. Possesses the vision to set strategic direction for the team in response to emerging accounting issues and changes in the business environment. Uses superior communication skills to influence and collaborate with all levels of the organization, including making persuasive presentations to increasingly large audiences. Responsible for developing employees with the capabilities needed to meet the current and future objectives of the enterprise. Fosters an environment of continuous improvement, initiating and/or leading cross-functional projects to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the accurate, timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual book close cycles, directly supporting the Liberty Mutual Investment organization while aligning and collaborating with the External Reporting team to deliver U.S. GAAP and NAIC Statutory Investment accounting, reporting, and disclosures, ensuring compliance with all accounting regulations.
- Oversees the research of all relevant accounting policy issues and the development of corresponding new processes, ensuring issues are communicated appropriately to senior management.
- Responsible for the establishment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of an internal control framework that ensures accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting.
- Acts as a trusted advisor to Liberty Mutual Investments, Corporate Taxation, and Comptroller Group, having the vision to make recommendations for accounting treatment that improves business outcomes. Understands the interdependencies of financial systems, prioritizing and implementing enhancements, planning appropriately for changes, and directly supporting the implementation of a new Investment ledger.

Qualifications
- Bachelor`s degree (Accounting or Finance)
- CPA or advanced degree in Accounting preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of accounting or finance experience, 2-3+ years of leadership experience
- Must demonstrate the ability to execute thoroughly in a fast-paced work environment, adapting quickly to changing conditions to achieve results
- Possesses superior communication skills to influence and collaborate with all levels of the organization to gain support for ideas and execute on projects that deliver value to customers
- Comfortable leading meetings, making strategic recommendations to senior management and giving presentations to increasingly large audiences
- NAIC Statutory Investment accounting experience preferred
- Insurance accounting experience preferred
