What you’ll be doing...

The Interconnect engineer will be responsible for providing complete technical oversight and project management for transport network expansion projects including: (1) Macro / Small Cell / In Building / Temp Deployment Projects and/or (2) Transport Only projects.  These projects focus on the expansion of the Network Build Plan, EBH, dark fiber, and the One Fiber program supporting southern Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and El Paso, TX. The candidate will be responsible for project managing the Southwest Build plan successfully to meet business objectives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Engineering and project management for the design, acquisition, and implementation for all equipment supporting network infrastructure projects, including but not limited to 3rd party EBH, dark fiber, routed rings, DWDM and SONET Optical transport systems deployed throughout the Verizon Wireless (VZW) Network.

  • Maintaining an engineering database for documentation of all fiber assets, plant, FDP panels, and contract management.

  • Complete vendor management responsibility including selection, contract negotiation, RFP and ongoing relationships, as well as engineering/design, managing budgets, procurement, and project oversight ensuring objectives are met in accordance with stated timelines.

  • Financial responsibility on capital and expense projects - establishing business cases, developing and managing budgets, procurement and bill payments.

  • Decision making authority with respect to all of the above duties. It also interfaces constantly with higher levels of the management team across various organizations as part of the process of managing all facets of large, complex infrastructure deployments.

  • Regularly working with other group’s forecasts to ensure transport growth projects meet expectant demands in support of the company’s objectives.

  • The position regularly works with Network planning on strategic initiatives, to develop future technology solutions, and features and growth jobs on existing products that support our infrastructure.

What we’re looking for…

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Proficiency in office computer applications: Docs, Spreadsheets, Presentations, etc

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, be self-motivated, show initiative, and be able to work independently.

  • Ability to learn new technology quickly and apply working knowledge of wireless engineering on new projects.

  • Experience with troubleshooting, problem solving, project management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • Three or more years of experience in the cellular/ telecommunications industry, specifically in transport engineering.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in one or more of the following platforms and/or technologies

    • Nokia 7705, 7250, and 7750 routing platforms

    • DWDM Optical Transport systems, including: Fujitsu 9500/CDS, Ciena 6500

    • Digital Communications including: Fiber, ethernet, microwave

    • Wireless voice and data services including: 4G LTE, 5G NR

  • Knowledge of OSI stack and IPV4/IPV6 addressing.

  • Knowledge and experience with Granite circuit database or CND (Internal to Verizon)

  • A team player who is willing to work with multiple engineers in different disciplines as well as project managers.

  • A self-motivated worker who is able to work in an office environment.

  • A highly organized individual who can work on a high volume of projects simultaneously while prioritizing each task.

  • An innovator who learns quickly, understands why processes are the way they are, and comes up with more efficient and effective ways of doing business.

  • An engineer who desires to learn new, cutting edge technology.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $72,000.00 and $134,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
