We are seeking to add a bilingual (French/English) Senior Underwriter, based in Canada, with extensive knowledge of Canadian underwriting practices. This position will play a crucial role in supporting the underwriting function as we expand our payments services into Canada.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understand and ensure compliance with Canadian underwriting laws
  • Understand and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures, FINCEN, AML,  government, card brands, and acquiring banks' rules and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all underwriting performed.
  • Accurately review, document and decision merchant applications.
  • Communicate performance and related risk levels of merchants to management.
  • Use multiple systems, applications, and procedures to research and resolve issues accurately.
  • Efficiently manage escalated issues within set timeframes.
  • Support cross-functional training and adaptability within the department.
  • Ability to function independently and in coordination with other teams.
  • Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and workload management.
  • Following up on all pended applications and respond in a timely manner to all merchant and business units inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Qualifications:

  • High School diploma (university degree preferred).
  • Preferred experience: 5+ years in merchant services or payment processing and strong familiarity with underwriting or risk assessment in Canada.
  • Ability and eagerness to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills and interactions with a wide range of levels.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • High motivation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently and as part of a team toward achieving client and team goals.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to fluently speak, write, read, and understand English and French.
