Your missions

For People improves digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations by embedding directly in government agencies. We modernize software, systems, and platforms to ensure they better serve the people who need them the most. We're a fully remote, human-centered team that prioritizes positive work-life balance and the well-being of our people.

Your Impact

The DevOps & Infrastructure Engineering team builds and maintains the foundational systems that support data scientists, analysts, researchers and policymakers working on Medicaid data analytics across the United States Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). We are responsible for the architecture, deployment, and maintenance of core infrastructure components in the cloud. We strive to build automated, resilient, scalable and secure systems to help enable our users to do their best work with minimal disruptions.

As a member of the Infrastructure Engineering team, you will play a key role in facilitating the transformation of CMS’s Medicaid Data Analytics Platform. You will be leveraging native AWS technologies and 3rd party tools to improve existing systems and build new ones. You will be collaborating with the platform and security teams to help implement scalable and secure infrastructure solutions that meet our users’ needs and help facilitate data-driven health care policy making at CMS.

Our Culture

For People is a team of humans. We place a significant amount of emphasis on positive work-life balance, setting healthy expectations, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of first. That means picking a child up from school during the day or going for a mid-day walk is okay!

Our entire team is remote across the United States, from the West Coast to the East Coast. There will never be a return-to-office, as we have none!

Your Opportunities

On the CMS’s Medicaid Data Analytics Platform project, you will work closely with product teams to:

  • Support the existing infrastructure for our production servers, data analysis pipelines, and analytics tool sets
  • Research and experiment with new technologies and implement them to help improve our systems and processes
  • Evaluate our existing CI/CD pipelines and improve their scalability, stability, security and efficiency
  • Help improve our builds and deployments to move away from custom tools towards industry-standard tooling and technologies
  • Collaborate with the platform and security teams to understand and help resolve their needs
You Bring
  • A humble and caring attitude
  • Experience with AWS including EMR, EC2, RDS, ELB, and Lambda
  • Experience with infrastructure as code technologies such as Cloud Formation or Terraform
  • Experience with CI/CD automation technologies such as Jenkins, GitLab, AWS CodeBuild or similar
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve build and deployment failures in CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python/Boto3, Groovy or similar
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Federal government officials, data engineers, security teams, product managers etc.)
  • Proven communication and teamwork skills
  • BA/BS in computer science or relevant experience
Bonuses
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes orchestration is a plus
  • Experience with infrastructure build tools such as Packer and server configuration tools such as Chef, Puppet, and Ansible is a plus
  • Experience with Artifactory, Maven or similar artifact management repository technologies is a plus
  • Knowledge of Linux system administration is a plus
  • Advanced degree in computer science or related field
