Job description

Overview:

The Applications Engineer is responsible for providing functionally stable application solutions that meet business needs.
They perform evaluations to understand the unique goals of each project and build and implement solutions with results.
Applications Engineers determine specifications required and collaborate with the Infrastructure Team to ensure
compatibility between the applications and the environments. They are responsible for the operational and functional
health of that environment including installation and configuration of business and healthcare applications, ensure
functionality and compatibility, and perform required or preventative maintenance. The Applications Engineer will also
perform other duties as assigned.


This position is considered Remote, which means that individuals in this position may work at an approved Offsite location;
however, they may be required to occasionally visit a Central Health office in Austin, Texas.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties (at least 5 that are non-negotiable duties and are absolutely pertinent to successfully completing the job without
accommodations):
The Applications Engineer MUST:
• Analyze problems related to new and existing systems and applications and develop solution-focused recommendations.
• Utilize standardized department tools/software systems to plan task/projects and track progress toward milestones and
deadlines.
• Maintaining application environments in cloud, vendor hosted, and on-site servers
• Collaborate with Project Management Office (PMO) staff and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) during project planning
and the lifecycle of the project.
• Independently implement solutions for features within your area of expertise.
• Clearly and thoroughly document customer’s needs and translate those into workflow diagrams, use cases and requirements.
• Take the lead in continuous business improvement by regularly advising management of improvements to applications,
services, and processes that enhance efficiency, scalability and/or security.
• Provide direction and solutions that support the company and department strategic initiatives.
• Actively monitor the performance of applications, identifying opportunities for optimization and partnering with stakeholders
and application vendors on implementation
• Oversee studies and the preparation of reports that include study findings, recommendations, and instructions for proposed
system implementations; formulates logical descriptions of problems; and devise, design, and implement optimum solutions.
• Participate in projects that cross functional areas of corporate systems and other business entities that require coordinating,
planning, and scheduling during project development and implementation stages.
• Analyze and define corporate disaster recovery responsibilities and procedures related to systems and technologies assigned.
• Provide advanced support for Enterprise applications, coordinating efforts with User Support, network administrators,
developers, network engineers, and other staff as needed.
• Communicate and work closely with management to schedule and drive the delivery of features, estimate task timeframes,
and follow agile iteration processes
• Perform vendor management and oversight as needed.
• Perform debugging, testing, code improvement and re-designing tasks.
• Optimize enterprise applications by integrating new technologies and performing upgrades to ensure the applications stay
up-to-date and continue to satisfy customer needs.
• Responsible for technical documentation including but not limited to; requirements, development processes, procedures, and
application version histories.
• Ensure change management processes are continuously followed, documented, and tested to meet our business
requirements.
• Triage support issues related to Enterprise Applications that cannot be covered by Tier 1 support while focusing on expanding
the support knowledge base and training for Tier 1 support.
• Support IT’s application services, including adherence to procedures for installation, configuration, management, upgrade or
replacement, and disposition
• Can work outside of standard business hours.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Clinical Science or Computer Science
• -OR- High School diploma and 4 years of experience supporting Healthcare IT applications


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
• 3 years of experience in Information Technology as an Applications or Systems Engineer or Applications or Systems Analyst
• 3 years of experience with software development lifecycle including writing Requirements or User Stories, performing testing
or QA, and providing end user support.
• Application installation, configuration, and determining server specifications


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• 2 years of SharePoint administration experience
• 3 years of experience working with healthcare-related business, finance, operations or clinical systems
• 3 years of experience working on a team utilizing Agile, Waterfall, or Six Sigma methodologies


REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Failure to acquire the certification(s) by the below deadline(s) will result in
termination of employment immediately after the deadline has passed. Certification/licensure renewal deadlines must be
maintained by the individual employee, as applicable.
• ITIL certification within six months of hire
• CPM (Certified Product Manager) certification required within one year of hire
