The work we do matters.
About the job
As the Research & Design Lead, you’ll lead multiple cross-functional teams of service designers, user researchers, product designers, and content designers, playing a pivotal role in driving user-centered solutions. This work will focus on addressing some of the most entrenched data-related challenges hindering real-time, targeted public health interventions in the U.S. You’ll collaborate closely with leading public health experts and technologists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and their partners throughout the public health ecosystem, to advance open and interoperable public health data systems.
By developing and implementing modern, open-source, and modular tools, you’ll help transform key parts of the data journey — from patients to public health officials and back. This is a unique opportunity to lead efforts that will deliver impactful, real-time public health solutions, ensuring that critical data flows seamlessly and supports more effective interventions.
What you’ll do
- Lead and mentor cross-functional teams, including service designers, researchers, product designers, and content designers, fostering collaboration and high performance
- Develop and implement a cohesive research and design strategy centered on enhancing data interoperability and real-time public health responses
- Partner with CDC public health experts, technologists, and key stakeholders to create open-source tools that improve data flow and integration across public health systems
- Guide research efforts to deliver actionable insights, driving critical public health interventions and decision-making
- Apply service design methodologies to tackle systemic public health challenges, with a focus on optimizing data management and accessibility
- Spearhead DesignOps initiatives to streamline operations, enhance team efficiency, and support scalable design processes
- Drive cross-team alignment, ensuring product, design, and technical solutions are fully in sync with the CDC's mission and goals
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across all teams and projects
- Provide hands-on support as needed, helping teams navigate obstacles and stay on track to meet project goals
