Position Snapshot

As Sr. Engineer at Atwell you will work on diverse projects with various sizes, scope, and detail. We have a very flexible work environment with a lot of the Power and Energy team working remotely covering a national presence. Atwell is looking for Sr. Engineers that are interested in being a subject matter expert working on engineering for wind and solar generation, greenfield and retrofit substations, calculations and studies of power systems and the integration of battery energy storage systems.  Our diverse project scope will allow you to cross market your experience working with renewable energy developers as well as the large utilities.  You will work for a nimble team with the backing of a larger consulting company with a broad range of services over multiple markets. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • PE License is required.
  • 6 (6) plus years of experience in high voltage substation design, modeling, development and testing of substation communication systems related to SCADA/EMS and tele protection channels
  • Experience managing and mentoring other employees.
  • Experience in utility or merchant power industry is a plus.
  • Good understanding of HV and EHV electrical engineering transmission and distribution theories and principles

Day to Day

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.
  • Ensure Atwell quality procedures are followed.
  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
  • Manage schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.
  • Interact directly with project teams, meticulously scrutinizing design documents and deliverables associated with both substation and renewable energy SCADA systems.
  • Take ownership of the Network/SCADA engineering aspects in photovoltaic and BESS designs, overseeing projects from inception to successful completion.
  • Support commissioning activities for Substation, PV Array, and BESS, ensuring a smooth transition to operational phases.
