The Tax department at Q2 offers a hard-to-find dynamic work environment that welcomes innovative ideas, rewards hard work and commitment, exposes its members to growth opportunities, and encourages evolution of individuals, methodologies, processes, and systems.
The focus of the Sales Tax Accountant is to be responsible for the maintenance and preparation of all aspects of the organization’s federal, state, local, and international indirect tax compliance and to assist with direct (income) tax compliance. The Sales Tax Accountant should be familiar with a variety of tax related concepts, practices, and procedures, specifically indirect tax. This position reports to the Director, Global Taxation.
A Typical Day:
Manage US sales tax process with overseas team and outsourced compliance provider. Conduct multi-state taxability research.
Use Avalara and Excel to conduct data analysis, reporting, and reconciliations.
Analyze substantial amounts of sales tax data and match with general ledger transactions.
Maintain and monitor sales tax exemption certificates.
Review purchase invoices monthly for proper use tax determination.
Register entities in new jurisdictions for sales/use tax, business and occupation licenses, or gross receipts tax as necessary.
Responsible for coordinating annual report preparation for all necessary states.
Prepare and file business/sales tax licenses and renewals.
Analyze new products to ensure proper sales tax classification.
Assist with information gathering for indirect tax audits with various taxing authorities.
Identify and assist with the implementation of process improvement ideas in tax processes.
Document procedures and processes for all job functions.
Assist with outsourced income tax compliance, including:
Gather information for external tax advisors
Make state franchise and income tax estimated payments
Assist with preparation of FIN 48 analysis
Bring Your Passion, Do What You Love. Here's What We're Looking For:
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with 3+ years of experience; or equivalent related work experience.
Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel knowledge
Recent work experience with NetSuite (Oracle) and Avalara preferred
Blackline and SalesForce experience a plus
Must have experience with account reconciliations and strong analytical, problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in fast paced environment
Strong work ethic with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Inquisitive disposition and eager to learn new skills, tools and processes
