Position Overview
The Compliance Counsel will be responsible for ensuring that the company's operations and products comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role involves developing and implementing compliance programs, conducting risk assessments, and providing strategic guidance on regulatory matters specific to the Data Protection, Privacy, and regulatory aspects relating to SaaS platform at a global level. Additionally, the Compliance Counsel will handle compliance and labor law matters.
Key ResponsibilitiesRegulatory Compliance:Monitor and interpret regulatory requirements and changes in laws affecting the SaaS products.
Develop and implement compliance programs to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations, including telecom laws, data privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GDPR, HIPPA, IT Act, PDP etc.).
Provide guidance on regulatory issues to various departments, including Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success.
Data Privacy and Security:Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and standards.
Develop and maintain data protection policies and practices.
Conduct data privacy impact assessments and manage data breach response activities.
Policy Development and Implementation:Draft, review, and update company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Conduct training and awareness programs for employees on compliance and ethical business practices.
Risk Management:Identify and assess compliance risks associated with business operations and SaaS products.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to ensure ongoing adherence to policies and regulations.
Internal Investigations:Conduct internal investigations into compliance violations or ethical concerns.
Provide recommendations and oversee corrective actions.
Contract Review and Management:Review and advise on compliance-related aspects of contracts, including vendor agreements and customer contracts.
Ensure contracts comply with relevant laws and internal policies.
Corporate Secretarial Compliance:Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements.
Labor Law Compliance:Ensure compliance with Indian labor laws and employment regulations.
Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in line with legal requirements.
Advise on employee relations, disputes, and disciplinary actions.
Regulatory Liaison:Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities.
Prepare and submit regulatory filings and reports as required.
QualificationsEducation:Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from an accredited institution.
Licensure: Admission to the Bar Council of India.
Experience:Minimum of 7+ years of experience in compliance, preferably within the technology or SaaS industry.
Strong background in Indian regulatory frameworks, data privacy, IT laws, corporate secretarial compliance, and labor law.
Experience in a similar role at a technology company or law firm advising technology clients is highly desirable.
