Who are we looking for?

Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, has an exciting new opportunity as our Brand Standards Manager in the Brand Standards & Compliance department. The Brand Standards & Compliance team is the team that contributes to the consistency and success of Choice’s brands by assisting with the development and implementation of Choice’s brand standards for several of Choice’s brands.

As a key member of our Brand Standards & Compliance team, you will help to write content for compliance and the Rules and Regulations and communicate effectively with all key stakeholders (franchisees and corporate audiences) to educate them on each brand’s programs and standards. The Brand Standards Manager will help develop evaluation metrics for new standards/programs and then ensure that brand standards are measured consistently by our third-party vendor and enforced by helping to execute the Brand Standards Waiver process and Quality Assurance Review appeals process. The Brand Standards Manager is also responsible for special projects related to anything compliance or brand standards related.

Your Responsibilities

  • Assist with the writing of new brand standards/programs as developed by and in cooperation with Brand Programs, Brand Strategy, and Enterprise teams (like Choice Privileges and Sustainability).

  • Assist with compliance strategies and compliance work steps as needed for new brand standards/programs.

  • Assist with integration of all brand standards into the Rules and Regulations

  • Assist with publication, delivery, and communication of the Rules and Regulations and QAR changes to key stakeholders.

  • Consistent management regarding answers to questions surrounding brand standards from franchisees and other internal stakeholders as needed.

  • Manage brand standards changes with Third-party vendor (annually and ad hoc as needed).

  • Update all training materials for third-party vendor for accurate evaluation of brand standards.

  • Execute the waiver process, including communication with properties. Collaborate with internal teams as needed.

  • Execute the appeal process, making decisions on QAR score adjustments, including communication with properties. Collaborate with internal teams as needed.

  • Review work steps for successful evaluation of brand standards as needed for existing programs and assist with developing successful enforcement strategy for brand standards. 

  • Assist with identification and resolution of barriers that prevent successful implementation of brand standards and fill gaps as needed (i.e., vendor problems that result in products not being available).  Collaborate with internal teams as needed.

  • Utilize technology to evaluate and improve internal processes as needed (i.e., ChoiceNow, Salesforce, TrueView, Teams, and Zoom)

  • Monitor results of Introductory QARs (IQs) after opening for new entrant hotels to the Choice system. Evaluate program as needed.

  • Assist with Compliance Orientation Program for new and repositioning hotels in the Choice system.

  • Other Brand Standards & Compliance related projects as needed.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required or equivalent experience.

  • At least 5-7 years’ experience with hotel operations and/or hospitality work needed, preferably some with Choice brands; ability to assess operational feasibility of standards.

  • Ability to prioritize and shift focus quickly depending on the needs of the Organization.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong orientation towards processes and drives for results.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with other internal stakeholders as well as Choice’s franchisee base.

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office products including but not limited to PPT, Word, and Excel a plus.

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Director, Brand Standards. You will have 3 peer teammates and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As our Brand Standards Manager, you will be a remote-based associate, working from your home. You will be required to connect virtually with Choice team members and leadership on video via Zoom, with possible periodic travel in-person to our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide offices in North Bethesda, MD or Scottsdale, AZ.
