Description

We are seeking candidates for the Health Information Management opportunity. This role involves correctly assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic and procedure PCS codes on clinical encounters, following regulatory and CMS Official Guidelines. The position is fully remote for applicants in all states except CA, NY, NJ, CO, OR, and HI.

The incumbent will provide intermediate Clinical inpatient support through the Health Information Management department, collaborating with leadership to complete coding assignments for inpatient admissions across various discharge departments such as Postpartum, Newborn, Cardiac ICU, and Interventional Radiology. Compliance with CMS’ Official Guidelines is mandatory, and candidates should have experience in one or more specialty areas such as Recurring Wound Care or Inpatient Rehab.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM codes by translating diagnostic statements and physician orders.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and abstract pertinent data elements for reimbursement.
  • Identify appropriate charges based on documentation and coding guidelines.
  • Work with HIM staff to obtain physician clarification for incomplete documentation.
  • Adhere to Health Information Management (HIM) coding policies.
  • Apply American Hospital Association (AHA) Official Coding Guidelines to support diagnoses and procedures.
  • Maintain coding certification and knowledge of current ICD-10-CM guidelines.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and quality standards set by department Leadership.

Skills And Certifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of inpatient coding experience is required.
  • Experience in acute care facility or Trauma Level II coding preferred.
  • AAPC, AHIMA, or Certified Coding credential (non-apprenticeship classification) is required.
