As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a key role in managing complex flow referral underwriting from various Managing General Underwriting partners and supporting our nationwide Program Lawyers book of business. You will handle assignments that require a high degree of technical underwriting expertise, working under the direction of Program Managers. Familiarity with Errors & Omissions coverages, lawyers’ professional liability insurance, and desk underwriting experience is preferred. Strong relationship management skills are crucial, as you will collaborate closely with multiple distribution partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex underwriting risks using diagnostic and systematic analysis, directly overseeing high-volume flow referral underwriting.
  • Determine appropriate pricing for complex risks in your assigned book of business, based on financial and competitive analysis, with minimal oversight.
  • Provide recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy.
  • Analyze the quality, quantity, and profitability of highly complex risks; prepare and present reports to management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with large agencies and brokers in your assigned territory to achieve positive and profitable outcomes on complex, high-risk business.
  • Stay current on state/territory issues, regulations, industry activity, and trends; participation in industry trade groups may be required.
  • Use advanced functionality in our systems to perform day-to-day activities efficiently.
  • Handle special underwriting projects, reports, and presentations as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Advanced technical expertise and underwriting skills, with a deep understanding of insurance and underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external business partners at all levels.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Comfort in handling ambiguous situations and complex issues.
  • Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; professional designations such as J.D., RPLU, or CPCU are preferred.
  • Typically a minimum of eight years of experience in lawyers’ professional liability insurance, underwriting, legal, or Errors & Omissions.
