Your missions

Description

This position offers the flexibility to work in a hybrid setup or fully remote. You will play a crucial role in evaluating, selecting, and classifying life insurance applications, especially for those of a complex nature. Your expertise will help shape our underwriting policies and practices, ensuring the maintenance of high standards in mortality and morbidity experience. Additionally, you will serve as a valuable resource for less experienced underwriters and engage in cross-functional projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluate and underwrite complex life insurance applications within your authorized limit, ensuring confidentiality throughout the process.
  • Stay informed on underwriting materials, medical factors, and practices that influence mortality and morbidity to deliver exceptional service to both internal and external clients.
  • Assess applications requiring additional evidence of insurability, authorizing necessary requirements such as medical exams, blood profiles, and client interviews.
  • Utilize your understanding of accelerated underwriting processes and apply risk-based decision-making skills to determine appropriate risk classes.
  • Collaborate with fellow underwriters, offering innovative solutions and providing guidance on complex cases.
  • Analyze and quantify data from personal or business financial information, confirming insurable interest and adherence to indemnification principles.
  • Coordinate reinsurance processes within contractual terms and conditions.
  • Partner with field representatives to understand their needs and expectations while providing support and feedback as necessary.
  • Authorize temporary insurance eligibility and manage policy refunds when needed.
  • Provide input on underwriting-related projects and support team goals and objectives.
  • Handle underwriting limits up to \(5,000,000 for life and up to \)750,000 for morbidity.

Qualifications

  • Education: A background in medical-related disciplines, marketing, insurance, risk management, economics, finance, or business management is preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: LOMA Level 1 Certificate (LOMA 280, LOMA 290) is preferred. Progress towards or completion of professional designations such as ALMI is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years in life underwriting.
  • Skills & Knowledge: Strong foundation in financial underwriting and in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and non-medical risks. Familiarity with independent distribution systems and reinsurance is beneficial.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, establishing relationships with various stakeholders.

Additional Information

  • Working Conditions: This role provides flexibility with options to work from home or in an office. Some non-standard hours and travel may be required.
