Your missions

Description

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Program Coordinator to support our team in managing day-to-day operations, overseeing projects, and fostering partnerships. Your role is vital in building and maintaining relationships within the astronomy community and engaging underserved communities in science and STEM fields.

Location

Northern Virginia or remote within the United States

Contract

Initial appointment for 1 year, with potential renewal for a second and third year.

Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination:
    • Manage and coordinate ongoing projects and activities.
    • Attend and provide updates at Governing Council (GC) meetings.
    • Initiate and implement new programs aligned with the Strategic Plan.
    • Ensure efficient project completion and support other activities as directed by the GC.
  • Partnership Development:
    • Maintain and enhance existing partnerships to boost impact and visibility.
    • Network at conferences and through approved social media to build new partnerships.
    • Strengthen connections with partner organizations through collaborative projects.
  • Fundraising and Financial Sustainability:
    • Work with the GC to secure funding for current and future projects.
    • Build and cultivate relationships with donors, aiming for an annual funding increase of at least $100K.
    • Develop an individual donor base and establish as a self-sustaining entity by the end of Year 3.
  • Communication Strategy:
    • Contribute to and execute a comprehensive communications strategy.
    • Increase the mailing list by at least 20% annually.
    • Maintain regular communication with stakeholders through e-newsletters and social media.
Work Environment

This mission-driven and team-oriented role is typically performed in an office setting, requiring management of multiple deadlines and extended periods at a computer. Travel may be necessary for meetings and project coordination.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in non-profit organizations and fundraising, including grant writing and management.
  • Proven ability to support fundraising efforts, manage multiple projects, and work independently.
  • Knowledge of astronomy and experience working with underrepresented communities in STEM.
  • Proficient with social media platforms (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube) and Office 365 tools.
  • Strong project management skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Spanish and/or French language skills are a plus.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a post-offer background check and reference check. Failure to pass will disqualify the candidate from employment consideration for six months.

  • Compensation: \(28.85 per hour (approximately \)60,000 per year), with factors such as education, experience, and market conditions influencing the starting pay.
